DmC: Devil May Cry
So, how would you preferably set up Vergil's combat moveset?

Vergil's Downfall got me thinking. A little moreso than usual, I mean. So, previously, Vergil has been more focused on power and Dante on speed. But really- having Vergil's method of combat being more different wouldn't be a bad call, if you ask me. Take Yamato, the default weapon, using a modernized form of kenjutsu (mostly drawn from Musashi's Book of Five Rings). Depending on whether you're in Angel/Devil/Normal stance, Vergil's utilization of the sword will change. In Angel mode, Vergil strikes with the blade and scabbard simultaneously, as if dual wielding, and will occassionally re-sheathe and rapid-draw the blade. In Devil mode, Vergil tucks the scabbard behind his belt and grips Yamato with two hands in a traditional samurai stance. Normal is the usual stance we're all familiar with- standing with Yamato sheathed, ready to be drawn for a strike. And this time, Judgment Cut dramatically cuts everything into little pieces, if charged fully. But what makes Vergil different from Dante would be his usage of speed, so to speak. Vergil is slow to start, and slow to stop, but in the middle, he is an unstoppable storm of violence. And, obviously, changing course of such a storm isn't easy. So, in order to move from one enemy to another, you must depend on parrying more- because upon parrying, you can automatically shift focus and move into that enemy with a riposte. Your combat grade, though, is improved by concentrating on a single enemy- by "dueling" with them, if you will. So, in other words, Vergil has a lot of dead frames- but you have to work around them, and even use them to your advantage. As for weapons, I was thinking stuff along the theme of tranquility. One would be the khakkhara- the ringed staff carried by Buddhist monks. Can be used as a blunt melee weapon in a traditional fashion, or impale enemies on the sharp trident-like edges, or beat the staff against the ground to create sonic shockwaves. Depending on which stance you use (Angel/Devil/Normal), Vergil strikes with a more specific part of the staff- the ringed part, the bladed part, or the blunted part. Next? Battle fans. Seriously. These would be your crowd control weapons. Wield two at a time, throw them like boomerangs, and they have the benefit of slowing your falling speed (ha), or pushing/pulling enemies with turbulence. Depending on your stance, you will either fight with both fans opened, both closed, or one open and one closed- each having their own separate movesets, of course, yet completely linkable. Next is the tingsha, or ritual cymbals. Joined by a thin metal chain, this are your combo weapon. Use to either entrap, or simply bludgeon your enemies, based on your stance. You can strike them together to create a sonic boom that causes everything outside of the shockwave to speed up or slow down. Now, summoned swords- simple thing, but make each sword look like a kila or kartika depending on the stance used, instead of a generic sword. Can be queued up or spun around the body (or enemy), as usual. So, four weapons, each with three different movesets depending on the stance, each affecting the way you traverse across the battlefield. Alright, your turn. Interesting topic. I'd love to see something like this. I haven't played Vino's DLC so I don't know exactly how he works. So this will be about the old Vergil instead. Now, before talking about weapons, Vergil from DMC3:SE would need more styles. Darkslayer is essentially Dante's Trickster. Vergil should first have an equivalent to Swordmaster. We'll call it, Duelist. (Yamato) O does a quick dash towards the locked on enemy.. This move has follow ups. /\x5 - Vergil does 5 rapid diagonal slashes to one enemy. /\.../\..../\..../\ - Vergil does a series of forceful slashes to all nearby enemies. You can toggle your lock to strike different enemies. Think Jake Muller's dashing move from RE6. /\,O(continously) - Vergil's own version of Dance Macabre but with Yamato. Vergil performs a series of lightning quick slashes to an enemy and then goes into a series of kicks ending in one final large slash. O - Cancels the dash and any attacks used in the dash at the cost of half a DT stock. Lock on+ Up + O - A counter move. Vergil sheaths his sword for a few frames. If he is attacked during this the screen goes black showing blue light shining through the darkness. Vergil is on the other side of the opponent as multiple slashes surround the enemy's body. Any other enemies nearby are also damaged. Lock On+Down+O - Dimensional Rift - Vergil stabs Yamato into the ground and is surrounded by blue light coming from the ground around him. Any enemy in the area is severely damaged. O(in Air) - Vergil spins around rapidly slashing the enemy on a tilted axis. (Beowulf) O - Vergil kicks a blast of light energy at an enemy Sensui style(see Yu Yu Hakusho) Lock on + up + O - Vergil does a mule kick to an enemy taking them into the air and follows up with a series of rapid fire kicks higher into the air. Lock on+ Down + O - Vergil turns around and slides across the ground leaving a large trail of light energy behind him that damages enemies near it. O(air) - Vergil performs an aerial knee strike attack that lifts the enemy higher into the air slightly. (Force Edge) O - Drive Supra - A faster, large version of Dante's Drive attack. Lock on + up + O - Vergil performs a version of Pop Shredder than alternates is angle of spin periodically and doesn't launch enemies. Lock on + Down + O - Slaughter - Vergil does a 5 hit slashing combo where he spins his body for every slash ending with a launcher. O(Air) Aerial Rave - Vergil performs 4 upward slashes to an airbourne opponent. Another style he could have would be one focusing on new Spiral Sword formations. However I'm all tapped out of creative energies so I'd expand upon that later.
Oh, and with all this, I'm talking as though we're still using lock on, and have two buttons for attacking instead of one. That, and some double-button-presses. --- "Yesterday we obeyed kings and bent our necks before emperors. But today we kneel only to truth..." - Khalil Gibran
I always imagined Vergil using a Naginata in order to compliment Yamato and compensate for it's lack of crowd-control ability. And if I recall, some kind of sickle on a chain, Axl Low style. I'm not very good at thinking of actual movesets, though.
GrrMan posted... So, previously, Vergil has been more focused on power and Dante on speed. Stopped reading right there. Vergil is not just more powerful than Dante (in DMC3), he's also faster. His Devil Trigger also gives him a permanent speed boost of 20%, which Dante can only do with Cerberus equipped, not to mention Starfall is not only faster than Killer Bee, it's also at least twice as strong by default. Actually, Vergil's usage of Beowulf is both faster and stronger than Dante, he can probably dish out more damage with fewer hits, even taking Real Impact into account. --- PSN: AlexxShadenk777 "DMC1 is the best, DMC4 is the worst. At the very very least, with a lock-on button. --- The Official Manchester Black of the C&GN Board "Fly me to the moon, and let me play among the stars. . . "

AlexxShadenk777 posted... GrrMan posted...So, previously, Vergil has been more focused on power and Dante on speed. I'm talking primary focus. Whereas Vergil can overwhelm enemies with sheer force (summoned swords + any combo is an automatic staggerlock, even when enemies have Triggered), with Dante, you have to be more reliant on speed, maneuvering, and dodging. +1 for the ideas, even though I may not agree with some of them. --- "When was the last time someone said 'Man, I wish this game had MORE QTEs'? Never mother******. That's when!" ~ Samuel L. Jackson on QTEs True story. |
