im thinking about buying this game, what will determine whether i buy it or not will depend on if they ruined vergils character or not. i never even liked dante so i dont care but vergil is one of my favorite game characters. from the trailers it doesnt look good, but im hoping hes jsut acting and hes as much of a heartless badass as always. i dont care if it spoils a twist or surprise, i just want to know if the trailer represents his character or if its just a trick

He became spineless coward. Hiding behind Kat, doing everything from behind and literally don't have guts to do anything on his own. Vergil's Downfall is journey of self pity, where Vergil cries about how mommy never loved him ( literally)

Yep, they ruined him. Prepare to cringe and be embarrassed for him as he gets his ass kicked in every way by Dante- and I mean it- you even get little cutscenes of Vergil falling on his ass- even Dante takes pity on him at one points and says "It's not too late to stop this.". Then you'll play the dlc in which a fake Kat taunts Vergil and he then starts doubting whether he really does have a bigger dick than Dante so he goes to ask him Mom. She answers just what you'd expect. Cue crying and self pity.

Yep, that's Vergil now.

They utterly ruined not only Vergil, but Dante and everything else about the DMC series.

In this game;

- He uses guns
- Just stands there in the boss battle against him
- Sounds like he's about to cry during every one of his sentences
- Has a stupid little ****ing fedora
- Feels the need to explain what a Nephlim is in great detail....... and get's all the details wrong cause a Nephlim is NOT a half angel/half demon

Vergil wasnt a ground breaking character in DMC 3 but man did his demeanor and voice send chills down your spine. Ive always been more of a vergil fan than a dante fan and seeing Vergil in this game was...disappointing.

Vergils concept was already pretty perfect in DMC 3 so in this game it comes across to me as something that they changed just for reboots sake. It would be entirely possible to slightly alter Vergils motivations and look without destroying what made his character likeable.

Imagine a DmC Vergil who doesn't sound/come off as whiny, hes cold and calculating but still retains a sense of honor. Hs presence makes others uneasy without ever having in depth knowledge of him. Hes not like Dante where his naturally care free attitude causes people to underestimate his strength; Vergil hold a certain gravitus that demands he not be taken lightly.

In effect I guess im also implying that they changed Dante too much, which they did. Old Dante, ridiculous, care free, sarcastic persona. DmC Dante, vulgar, abrasive, carefree but in a negative connotation. They changed him into an unnecessarily serious character which was never really the point or concept of Dante.

"They made him more believable." Does anything at any point in the entire franchise come off as believable to you. People didn't enjoy Dante because he was relatable or had some understandable inner struggle, they enjoyed him because he was powerful and reveled in that powet and was as utterly obnoxious and care free as most people wish they could be. It didn't matter if he was cheesy or witty; what mattered is that he was Dante and no one could really change that because of his ability to roflstomp anyone who he came across. He was never unsure of what he was, he knew exactly who he was and knew for the most part what he would and would not do.

It was entirely possible to reboot the franchise but keep the idea of the series iconic characters in tact; Dante being ridiculous and over confident and mouthy, and Vergil being cold, intense, and unsettling in demeanor while still retaining some warped sense of honor. If they were going to alter everything so far from the source material then it should have been a new ip rather than something related in name only to thr original. DmC was an ok game with horrible thinkers backing it (Tameemcapcom). If it was an ip its sells would not have been so horrid because of all the bad press due to people who feel rightfully disappointed in a game which has almost nothing to do with anything in the previous iterations but has the same name slapped on to, in effect, trick people into buying it on name value alone.

Stereotype yes, but he was an enjoyable stereotype. Every character in the new DmC is also a stereotype/trope so this point your trying to get across is pretty redundant.

you can enjoy any stereotype, so I don't see what your point was either.
