All that told me was that the critic score holds sway in the industry. The user score was never mentioned.

Also, I don't really trust either score as being "more valuable" than the other. There's as many ignorant critics as there are psychotic fans that make their respective scores meaningless.

And before you mention the ME3 part of it, yes, obviously fan reaction meant something, but the actual piece that you posted proved that fans did more than just post bad scores of the game on metacritic.

As cruel as it may sound, that's what happens with almost any product. If people don't like what they see or try, then there's a good chance that they are going to tell their friends about it and what products to avoid. That's just how things work with many items, not just video games.
