DmC2 more likely than DMC5...

Lets not forget too that the units shipped are what make Capcom money. I never looked up that number but sold to the customer are where retailers make the profit. If Capcom shipped 2 million but 720K or whatever it is sold, they basically sold 2 million. Only thing is retailers won't want anymore because they will have an excess of product.

And again, the groundwork for DmC2 is already there, so chances are it would be even less to develop than DmC. And again, with a new generation of consoles, it would be a smart business move for Capcom to take advantage of that and release DmC2 as a launch title. It will not only sell better, but set a strong foothold for DmC as a franchise (and no I don't have proof they're doing this, but an understanding of business makes this scenario very plausible). Or at the very minimum release a DmC upgraded edition (next gen graphics, new content etc.).

And what do you think will happen when DmC 2 comes around?

Capcom: "Who wants to buy our game?"

Retailers: "We'll buy 800,000 and go from there."

Capcom: "But that doesn't even cover the budget!"

Retailers: "Too bad. We took a bath last time due to how little we were able to sell."

"...the groundwork for DmC2"

You keep saying this, but it's wrong. In terms of story, okay, but the same goes for a Devil May Cry 5. But assets? They have nothing. Nothing from this gen can be carried over to next gen. They'd have to start from scratch no matter what they do. DmC sold under 700,000 copies while Devil May Cry 4 sold 2.7 million copies and only scored 2 points lower on metacritic than DmC. Tell me, if you had to start from scratch either way, which would you make a sequel for: The game that sold poorly and reviewed well or the game that set franchise records and reviewed well?

You obviously don't know much about business or how the industry works.

But here you go...

Failure=/= financial failure, and sales expectations might be exaggerated or much higher than the budget. Claiming that not meeting sales expectations as a failure is an over generalization and blatantly ignoring things such as the general reception, feedback and playerbase.

Mate, didn't you use the fact that DmC got good reviews in your arguments?

I don't know if anyone gave Shatterstar the links to the sales which he was asking for before, but here they are anyway. And yes, NPD and Media Create are legit and are often used by the industry itself.

DmC under 200,000 (insiders say it was 189,000) first month in NA according to NPD:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:HZ8zFqiqv1IJ:www.giantbomb.com/forums/dmc-devil-may-cry-6240/npd-rankings-are-in-dmc-bombs-in-the-us-and-world--1424617/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

DmC under 50,000 second month in NA according to NPD:

http://www.gamechup.com/npd-dmc-devil-may-cry-bombs-badly-in-february-ni-no-kuni-sells-more/

DmC under 170,000 after a month in Japan according to Media Create:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514390

So DmC sold under 410,000 units in retail in the two largest markets in the world after 2 months. Assuming that Europe managed to pull 200,000 sales for DmC (and this is being generous) still means that DmC barely sold 600,000 copies in 2 months and then promptly stalled and dropped off all charts.

And if you want to bring up shipments:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-05-capcom-reduces-devil-may-cry-sales-target-by-800k

So not only did DmC do poorly at the retails, it did so poorly that Capcom had to reduce shipment expectations by nearly half.

But moreover... why are people still taking Shatterstar seriously? He obviously isn't an industry insider at this point (their info is actually correct a good portion of the time unlike Shatter who is wrong 99% of the time) and he obviously isn't an employee (any employee acting like this would have been fired long ago).

None of us take him seriously.

It just that we like to argue with him (read: show him the actual proof he's wrong) and hopefully, after a while, we'll see his brain explode.

But DmC was probably cheaper than TR, I guess.

So, if TR is more expensive, it needs to sell even more, in order to break even...
