How does DmC stack up to other inferior Western action games?

I don't know, I personally liked Darksiders 2 more, but it may be due to Death being a snarky and edgy, yet not repulsive or overdone character, unlike somebody else we all know.

Oh, I liked Death's character. I just didn't care for the game's overall structure and Death's combat aesthetic (Though you could get some cool looking Trickster-style shenanigans going).

Of recent memory, I'd probably rank Western akshun games as so:

-Lords of Shadow
-Arkham City
-Darksiders 1
-Darksiders 2
-Arkham Asylum
-DmC
-God of War

And I didn't play Dante's Inferno because it looked bad.

What I tend to find is that Western action games live and die on the content (levels, enemies, etc.) as they're not likely to make some excellent combat system that can sustain a player through stretches of sub-par content. Lords of Shadow, Arkham City, and Darksiders top my list because they keep throwing lots of new stuff at you. They go for a breadth over depth strategy and it works well enough for them. It may be more casual, but it's the right way to make a more casual game; not the God of War style no-depth, no breadth, hope you enjoy our three (bad) bossfights, the same skeletons ad nauseum, climbing sequences, and terrible "push the block" puzzles that the developers thought would be good because there's an animated person inside he block screaming for help. Edgy!

And to be fair to the West, while the Japanese make all of the genre's highs, they also make the absolute lows as well. There are some stupendously bad Eastern akshun games. DmC may be pretty weak, but at least it's not Nightshade, Bullet Witch, El Shaddai, or any one of a host of bad games from the land of the rising sun.

LOL at Implying that DmC > El Shaddai. Or that Lord of inputLag is the best western action game.

I'm not implying it...I'm saying it straight out. El Shaddai is a bad game. DmC is a mediocre one.

Or that Lord of inputLag is the best western action game.

What's better in recent memory? You could definitely make an argument that, for their time, Oni and Blade of Darkness stand as the best the West had/has to offer (back in a time when the East/West gap wasn't so huge). But nowadays, I don't think there's any Western action title that stands head and shoulders above LoS.

And? Look at the user scores.
Or even better, look at the sales.
Or even better, notice how half the Rising reviews were "BAWWWWW IT'S TOO HARD FOR ME WHY IS THERE NO BLOCK OR DODGE"

No doubt the sales were bad, but the user score is tainted by butthurt fans who gave the game a 0 or 1 without even playing it. You'd be crazy to deny this.

And I only played the demo for MGR so I can't speak for the whole game, but that demo was a cakewalk. All enemies gave you a full heal, gekkos were easy to kill once they stomped the ground, and LQ-84i could be stunlocked to death by the slide.

Why are so many people unable to accept the fact that critics and major gaming publications (you know, people who actually have some kind of relevance to the gaming industry, unlike you guys) like DmC more than MGR? ;)

Relevance? no people who make the games are relevant, critics opinions are actually worth very little in the long run.

Sales matter, we the consumers are far more important than any reviewer since we dictate if something gets a sequel or not. Hard to make more games if no one is buying them.

If reviewers meant anything, we would see games with bad reviews get near zero sales, while games with good reviews get millions, but it doesn't happen that way, now does it?

They can post 10/10 all they want, but let me ask you, when was the last time you see a gaming journalist at the end of a credits roll, or even have a good name for themselves?
