Why did the press piss all over DMC4 and yet...

@psycho
Good to know you don't have come back regarding level variety. You are not worth my time either, typical antis as always.

I'm too busy playing a straight backtracking mission where the only significant change (And challenge for that matter) is that my health won't stop draining.

Man, does DMC3 get tedious sometimes.

/Can't wait to do this stupid train ride fight a third time in a four mission span!
//Variety!

Well DMC4 was great until mission 14 or so. Basically when you had to replay the exact same game as Dante. It's like they made half a game, and were like: "Hey how can we make this game longer? Oh let's make them replay the exact same thing, but as Dante. Same levels and bosses, but we don't want it to be too repetitive. Okay lets have them do it in reverse order."

Lol no, DMC 3 has the first castle(start on Dante's bar), then go to giant monster mouth, then go to another new castle and lastly the last few chapters go to another dimension/hell gate, not to mention all of the bosses are more varied as well. DMC 4 is "literally" replaying the same stage over and over again, same place, same layout, lazy game development by big publisher ever. You can't seriously comparing DMC 3 back track to DMC 4 that just the most dumb thing ever.

What? In DMC3 after the second Vergil fight (mission 14) Dante has to climb the Temen-Ni-Gru again (end of mission 17) and he does that by retreading the old levels, with slight rearrangements here and there. For example M.17 is a patchwork of M.5, 6 and 7. Meanwhile Dante's M.15 in DMC4 is a patchwork of M.3-4-5. Are you seriously contesting that?

Like in DMC3 basically (minus the bosses).

claiming that in DMC were no repeating places...LOL ALL DMC forced you repeat levels and bosses. But hey at least there was awesome combat and enemies...to bad DmC falls flat in both parameters. Oh, and btw, level structure of DmC much more arcade like.

Well what else do they have to do? They have to tear down DMC4 as much as possible to be able to claim DmC being a better product despite DMC4 having objectively superior gameplay/combat options. Can't really rag on the bosses too much as there's more numerically (8 bosses, 2 of which get different movelists on the rematch) to DmC's 7.

The only thing DmC can lord over DMC4 is the level design which makes it an easy target. It's just a shame that the game's structure and backtracking is freaking identical to DMC3's which is such a sacred cow around here that they won't touch because they know they can't get away with that.

Oh. And if we're going to insist that DMC3 has more variety because it has more settings:

DMC/Neighborhood
Tenen-ni-gru
Leviathan
Lower Tenen-ni-gru
Hell

Vs.

Fortuna
Fortuna Castle/Mountains
Jungle
Order
Battle Over Fortuna/Inside Savior

Soooooo....

Which is compensated for by the infinite DT and one of the most chaotic fights in the game. It's a great beatdown mission a la M2.

For example M.17 is a patchwork of M.5, 6 and 7.

M17 is also extremely short and has a new boss.

You don't spend 65% of DMC3 as a cripple with appropriately easier fight scenarios. DMC4's fight scenarios are weaker in general; the only really good mission is 17. Most of Dante's levels have some stupid gimmick, and the non-combat sections are considerably worse (Gyro Blades, Cronus lasers, dice game, etc).

And after M17 in DMC4 Dante fights a new boss as well.

* Hell's Highway
* Subterranean Garden (M10)

DmC has level design so linear you can't even CHOOSE to backtrack.

Stop confusing level aesthethics with design.
