Why is this game no longer scary?

RE? Unless you're scared by pixelated monsters and loud noises, no, they should not scare you.

Remake.

Petty retort wasted.

So many reassurance posts from the "RE was never scary" crowd ITT. Atmosphere, tension, pacing, audio, aesthetics. Titles like Dead Space and Amnesia frighten adults easily, the same as good horror flicks.

So by growing up games like Amnesia and Fatal Frame aren't scary anymore?

Yep, that one game negates anything one could say about the series. It makes the CV less flamboyant, it makes the voice acting in the original better, it makes Leon crack fewer jokes in RE4, it makes Chris stop punching boulders, etc, etc. Seriously, REmake seems amazing, I'm disappointed that I never got a chance to play it, but people keep moaning about it when the lack of scares is mentioned. It's ONE game. That's it. We're on the sixth numbered entry with God knows how many spin offs at this point, REmake can't save it.

Getting back to the point I want to make, RE was "scary" in the sense that you had to worry about whether or not you could survive. RE is no longer "scary" because people don't want to worry about that and just mow down everything in their path.

If you every played any of the old games, you should know that by the midway point you get enough ammo to mow everything down with ease. Even hunters don't pose a threat in the later game. RE has always been about action.

Midway point? It's possible to have well over 100 handgun bullets before you even get into the police station in RE2. That's every zombie in there taken care of. Claire gets the Grenade Launcher 5 minutes in. Leon gets the shotgun. That takes the few Lickers crawling around.
