I'm havin' a tough time choosing between 3.5 and 4.5 myself.

But since people wanted it here are links to the betas:

And yes, Barry would've been a cyborg in the original.

Cool topic.

Tough choice, but it's 4.5 for me. 3.5 had the atmosphere, but it was too paranormal, whereas 4.5 would have been classic RE (albeit in a different location). I never understood all the love 1.5 gets, either; the finished RE2 is definitely superior.

gotta go with 4.5

I saw it well after RE5's release and I thought "Damn, they ditched that and gave us the crap RE5 was? I would have sold RE5 for 4.5 in a heartbeat"

The one that spawned Devil May Cry was APPARENTLY 3.5. Honestly I don't see why people say RE3.5's paranormal. It's hallucinations, not ghosts. And yeah, I look at 5's beta and mourn the loss of what we could have had, but I can not figure out if I'd want what we could've had with 4's beta more considering the crap they threw together for the final version's story myself.

Yeah but that actually turned into something. So I don't think it counts.

1.5

I liked the idea of Eliza, no not because she is blond but because she is a motorcycle racer.

For me it's not so much the paranormal vibe.

But the whole style of the hookman version, it's just not very Resident Evil at all. It make a cool original IP but I don't think it felt like a RE game.

It doesn't matter if they're hallucinations; they're still paranormal. Dolls coming to life and attacking Leon doesn't exactly shout "Resident Evil." This series is supposed to be about biohazards, not paranormal activity.
