If Revelations goes to a mainstream console, things could be looking up!

5 sold more because it was riding 4's success.

So? People could say the same thing about 2 riding on 1's coattails.

I thought RE4 sold more after it was released on Xbox and PS3?

Never proven.

You don't see RE4 mentioned on Capcom's Platinum Titles web page outselling RE5.

4 is a critical success, 5 isn't. Why are you debating this?

So the reason 5 sold better than 4 is???

Because you're totally false.

RE5 is the fastest selling in the franchise.

It's common knowledge to people who aren't stupidly biased.
I should be asking you about why you're even debating this.

I only asked...But thanks anyway. Typing that into a search engine I found this:

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html

I thought RE5 sold 7-8 million. This says 5.9 million. Hmm. And RE6 is already at 4.5 million? I saw reports about 4.5 being shipped. Maybe I'm reading this site wrong.

RE4 for PS2 at 2.3 million. The Wii version at 1.9 million. The Gamecube is at 1.6 million. So that equals 5.8 million. The Xbox and PS3 versions are not accounted for on this site. But approximately 100,000 units of the Xbox and PS3 version of RE4 needed to have been purchased to equal RE5.

I would think that RE4 sold at least that many on both systems. Therefore, it's looking like yes, I in fact DO see RE4 outselling RE5 on Capcom's Platinum Titles web page.

Review scores and awards don't mean s***.

Video game making is a business.
What determines "success" in a business like this are the sales, not high scores.

Games like Shenmue and Okami had a difficult time getting sequels despite high review scores and awards.
Beyond Good & Evil & Psychonauts never got sequels.

This is reality, whelp.

It's not about the sales total but the sales rate.

It's no surprise if RE4 managed to outsell RE5 because RE4 was released earlier and had a 4 year headstart.
However, RE5 managed to sell 5 million copies in less than a year.

That's what I meant by RE5 being the "fastest-selling" in the franchise.

Let's begin with sales:

VGChartz gives the following sales totals in millions across all platforms:

RE4 7.44
RE5 8.13
RE6 3.75

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=biohazard+4
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=biohazard+5
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=biohazard+6

On the other hand, according to Capcom's Platinum Titles list, we have the following in millions of copies sold:

RE4 2.3 PS2
RE4 1.9 WII
RE4 1.6 GC
RE4 5.8 Combined Total

RE5 5.9 PS3/360
RE6 4.5 PS3/360

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html#rank02_area

Any other version not mentioned most have sold below 1,000,000 units, and therefore was not listed.

However I'm inclined to think that these are shipped copies, not sold copies, at the very least in RE6's case, since it conveniently matches the amount of copies mentioned in their initial shipment:

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e121004.html

Now game reviews at Metacritic:

In a scale of 1/100, including scores of all platforms, but not including individual DLC scores, Metacritic has a critics' average score of:

RE4 87.833 (6 versions)
RE5 84.333 (3 versions)
RE6 70.5 (2 versions)

In a scale of 1/10, including scores of all platforms, but not including individual DLC scores, Metacritic has an user's average score of:

RE4 8.33 (6 versions)
RE5 7.367 (4 versions)
RE6 4.8 (2 versions)
