Hmm...

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html

Sales site for share holders has RE5 as of 12/31/2012 at 6mil. As you scroll through the list RE4 is broken up into the different systems. Altogether it still only came to 5.8mil, Giving RE5 a slight edge and RE6 in third with 4.8mil.

To be fair, it looks like the Capcom site is a little biased and skewed...it has RE6 at 4.8 million already, and isn't that just the shipped number and not the actual number sold in stores/online? So who knows how off the numbers for RE5 and RE4 are. Either way though, it's def between those two.

Its sold numbers, because the RE5 numbers are accurate. I really dont see why they would upsale RE6 and downsale RE4. Im not that paranoid, like some. Wether digital is counted im not certain. I know RE5 is accurate so I used that as a reference. Just curious why he would use 2 different sources RE5 official , RE4 not. RE4 official is a little lower then RE5. While this unofficial link is suppose to be 7+mil from a year earlier, even before HD remake. Yea, Im callin BS. Im not saying one is better, but the official source I'll believe over the old link he probably just googled.

Some of those numbers havent been changed in years. Read the Guiness book of records gamer edition. Guiness verified the sales data with the publishers. Theres some neat stuff in the book anyway.

Before the end of fiscal year 2012 it had RE5 at 5.8 and RE6 at 4.5. These are references for potential investors, they are updated, probably quarterly

Read the book. I checked that link. Most of those games havent been updatedin years and there still in print.. Do you think Guiness would print false information they are a reputable publisher.

I don't see any reason they can't. I doubt it's peer reviewed or anything

I think RE2 is the highest seller. It did 5 million on the ps1 alone and then came out on a bunch of other systems but they didn't give us those numbers so we don't know for sure.

Well, according to vgchartz the right answer is...it depends on what do you consider the original Resident Evil. But before going there, let me post the totals of the other main titles plus Code Veronica:

RE5 - 8.14
RE4 - 7.43
RE2 - 6.71
RE6 - 3.81
RE3 - 3.79
RECV - 3.54

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=resident+evil+2
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=resident+evil+3
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=resident+evil+4
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=resident+evil+5
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=resident+evil+6
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=code%3A+veronica
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=resident+evil

Then comes the original Resident Evil, whose most significant sales came from 3 versions of the game that came out for PS as well as the Saturn version. However we should also add the sales of the DS port Deadly Silence. In total these five add up 9.39.

However there's also the REmake that came out for Gamecube and later on for Wii. This version generated another 1.65 sales. Iwe add the totals of both versions we have a grand total of 11.04:

RE - 9.39
REmake - 1.65
Total - 11.04

Either way the original RE (even without REmake) is the best-selling game of the franchise, followed by RE5 in 2nd place and RE4 in 3rd place.

VGChartz is a load of ****. They pull numbers out of their ass and are hardly refutable. I think even on their site they said don't take our data as concrete or something. They know as much as we do and make up statistics. If you google around you'll find how they're not to be trusted. And plus, look at their data and compare it to Capcom's own stock data... Seriously.

VGChartz is bs.

Aww, I knew I read that RE4 record a while ago, so that's the link. However, I don't know if it's true. As someone posted, Capcom themselves have a different number. Someone said maybe they are biased as they have RE6 as 4.8 sold, but if that's the case why decrease RE4's sales significantly?

Either way, if you add up the sales of RE4 from the Capcom site, it has 5.8 mil. That's .2 less than RE5. The PS3 and 360 sales are not accounted for. So between those two, approx. 200,000 would have to be sold to equal RE5. I would assume this many sold on these two platforms, (but that is an assumption). So either way it appears, (unless the assumption is incorrect) that RE4 is the highest selling from both sources.
