Let me explain what ATMOSPHERE is *spoilers*

Resident Evil 1:

Guard House. First time you enter you see an empty hall way with a hole in the ground. Eerie music. A tentacle attacks you and you are like WTF was that. After moving the statue, you continue and see that the whole Guard House is taken over by plants on the Walls. You slowly find books and documents that talk about a certain monster plant "Plant 42". You still don't know what it is or where it is. You read about a chemical "V-Jolt" that can destroy the Plant. Now, depending on what you do and who you are, you face off against the Plant and you may need to do the V-Jolt so you can weaken it before fighting it. Facing Plant 42 you are like..DAMNNNNNNN huge *** Plant.

THIS is called build up.

Resident Evil 6:

Zombies and Monsters everywhere. Suddenly, Simmons turns into an undefinable Dog creature and later into a frickin' fly. No isolation, no build up, just pointless action scene after action scene.

And I am not hating on Resident Evil 6, I like it but you cannot really disagree with the atmosphere argument.

They aren't even remotely the same style of RE game, if RE6 is described as 'action horror' or a variation of it, then that's what you get. As a fan of both the older and newer games, I'm personally welcome to the change.

On a side note, any hopes for fans of the older 'survival horror' genre of RE games to reappear in the future are slim to none. I'm just glad I won't be one of the fans that complains either way.

This.

Although this track, by far, is the creepiest in the game. Try listening to it. I DARE YOU.

Not saying it should return to the classic, you can even have atmosphere in a RE6 environment but since they Michael-Bayed it to the extreme this time and didn't put any effort into it (they even admitted it lacked focus).

The style of gameplay doesn't necessarily make the atmosphere. IMO, RE4 set the mood quite well, even though it's more action oriented than RE1-3. The setting, sound and design were in sync. One of my favorite moments was seeing the huge castle in the distance, during the Village arc, and thinking "man, it would be great to visit that place". And you do.

That said, I agree with the TC that RE6 has pretty much no atmosphere. Every chapter feels the same as any other. Doesn't help that you're almost never in danger in this game.

Yeah, RE6 had atmosphere. You were just so determined to dislike it that you didn't notice(that can happen to any horror game, really)

Like I keep saying again and again.

It's not that the latter games "lacked" atmosphere.

It simply has a different atmosphere.

Recreating the exact. Same. Feeling you experienced when you played a game in a series 10 years ago is near impossible, unless you sit down and replay that very same game.

High expectations and being overly-picky only ruins your enjoyment.

There is no such thing as a "Quick Time Event done right".
A game that has Quick Time Events is a "video game done wrong".

That's not true. RE6 clearly lacks "build-up" to something. Has nothing to do with pickiness and nostalgia. It's a fact.
