Her parents were really smart.

Leon gave up his freedom after escaping from Raccoon City in order to keep Sherry Birkin safe. He was forced to work as an agent for the U.S. government in order to protect Sherry, so he is damn important to her, and she has a ton of respect for him.

Haven't you guys played RE6? It's blatantly obvious that Leon cares about Sherry...

He nearly got killed with a shotgun to his back to protect her.

I believe many people don't even care about Leon so they never realize Leon cares about Sherry.
