Reviews would have been a lot more positive. Yeah the game isn't "good" (there's a lot of annoying little things that i am not a fan of in it) but it also wasn't horrible like they would lead you to believe now that i actually have played some of it.
Its pretty much true, even if there are a certain % number of peoples who like the game AND doesnt mind it to be a RE game, there is still the other % who do not want to consider this as a RE game (same for 4 and 5).
In the end the % of peoples that like the game would had increased if the game wasnt a Resident Evil game and had a different title, characters and story.
The game is not bad even if it has a fews flaws (every game as its flaws),its the fact that it is considered a RE game that make some peoples mad.
Take exemple on the Serious Sam series, its a typical FPS where you kill an hoarde of monsters, but there are some games in the series that look different like the side scroller 'Serious Sam double D' or the rpg Serious Sam.
Altough those 2 Serious Sam games look different, they still have the same concept of fighting a hoarde of monsters,so the core gameplay is still there even if the view angle is different.
RE 4,5 and 6 on the other hands doesnt have the core gameplay of the originals (slower paced investigation) and look very differently in terms of story and appearance that it could become a new title game by itself.
The thing is, though, RE was dying before 4 came out. It literally changed gaming as a whole. There was no way to know how the series would end up being like after it. That's why you get people saying how RE hasn't been able to match 4. It was new and innovative. The rest, not so much. --- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7KDXVEOqj8 http://antir.site90.net/
but as an RE game, 4-onwards is crap. And again, it would've gotten MORE positive reviews had it not been labeled RE. --- Before you die you see the Tails Doll---Backdrop Observer of the Metroid: Other M board Apparently Edward: Wise Old Sage of Korodai
