does the skill "critical" affect melee/physical attacks?

Great that you made this topic because I was wondering this too. I couldn't really figure out the best skill set for melee only. There's melee 3 but then none of the other ones pair that well except for maybe the extra energy boost. What to use for the third one? I tried killing zombies with melee 3 and zombie killer 2 but it still took way too many hits. The melee damage should have been more.

It would be nice to know if critical hit helps at all with melee weapons or physical attacks.

Well, Critical Skill only increases the Critical rate that weapon already has...
but Knives as well as Shery's stun-rod and Jake's Hand-to-Hand for example
while considered melee weapons do not have any Critical Rate values(unlike firearm).
So in this sense they should not be affected by Critical Skill...
as for universal melee moves - I have no idea if they have any Critical Rate value.

But don't take my word as a gospel, for it's just an assumption...
and as we all know by now:

question just came to my mind because chris is a freakin bulldozer. so i was planning to pump it up with skills. however, i don't want to waste skillpoints upgrading critical if it doesn't affect melee attacks.

Well, I'd say that Critical for melee just not worth it
...regardless of wheather it affects melee moves or not.

You see, Leon and Chris has their knives, Sherry has her stun-rod.
These melee weapons don't use Combat Gauge
and can easily be used for headstunning the most enemies with following finisher
(which will kill your foe regardless of the Critical Rate of your attacks).

Furthermore, Chris even has the unique counter with his knife,
which is also happen to have some sort of semi-auto-mode.
I mean - if some regular enemy would try to attack you(with with melee type attack)
while you perform your knife swings, his attack will automatically be countered...

I personally, completed almost whole his campaign(aside from bosses obv) on No Hope
with just knife+melee. And I can't even say that it was that hard
(I don't consider myself to be a hardcore RE player)

But if you're playing at difficulty that allows you to pick skills
I'd go with Melee+Combat Gauge Boost+J'avo Killer/Zombie Hunter for melee runs
