Teach me how to coup de grace

#1Rapham0nPosted 7/3/2013 7:54:26 AM
I really hate it when a game does not explain to the player how stuff works. So could you guys please explain to me how the coup de grace works and what each character does during the coup de grace so that I can know what the hell I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

The most technical way to explain is it you need to cause Heavy Stun.

You do this in a few ways- on zombies, there is only one move that causes Heavy Stun in one shot, and that's when the male characters do the back-angle melee. Basically position the camera to face behind you, make your chracters face away from a zombie and hit melee and he should do the back elbow provided there is no zombie in front of you.

You can also set up a CdG by doing two light stuns consecutively. So for instance, a quick shot followed by a slide, or do a quick shot, then do a non-context melee (basically walk around the zombie and hit them while they are still stunned but from an angle that does not cue the activated stun melee.

An arm stun/leg stun followed by a slide will also set up for CdG.

You know you did a heavy stun correctly when the zombie spins around and looks completely dazed (think Street Fighter with stars over their head)

For bloodshots, flash grenades put them into immediate heavy stun, as does countering their uppercut. Whoppers go into CdG when you counter them or shoot out their knees.

Javo are a bit different based on mutation- the qs and slide works on most of them, as does the back-angle melee. SHield and the arm mutated javo normally go into CdG status once you do a meaty melee attack to their face.

For CdG Animations- don't really know their names, so just using descriptors:

Leon: Does a high angle snap kick, but keeps his knee up for a second.
Helena: Does a luchador dropkick
Piers: Does an uppercut
Chris: Does a powerful punch (I believe this is this Haymaker, but I could be wrong)
Jake: I think it's called an Axe Kick? He drops his foot down from above.
Sherry: Skyscraper kick? She kicks at a really high angle
Carla/Ada: Cartwheel kick
Agent: Punches the ground Jax from MK Style

Leon: I forgot the name of it. Roundhouse?
Helena: Drop Down Kick which is Josh from RE5 Desperate Escape/Reunion
Piers: Uppercut like Chris from RE5
Chris: Haymaker, you are correct.
Jake: Windfall just like his Daddy Wesker in RE5
Sherry: Sweep Kick, same as Jill in RE5
Ada/Carla: Somersault which is what Sheva does in RE5.
Agent: I call it Ground Pound like Jax too, in MK9 it's called Overhead Smash!

In short, just quickshot, slide kick your enemy then go in front of them and push the button prompt and there you got it.

Or you could just headshot, slide kick your enemy and run in front of them and push the button prompt.

Remember it has to be in front, attack from behind does not count as a coup de grace but a deadly melee that's all.

For Jake would be easier because you could just quickshot/headshot an enemy, switch to "Hand to hand" and gives your enemy a punch( not quickshot punch or charge attack) then there you go, your enemy is ready to taste the sweet coup de grace.

If playing as male char, then Elbow is the easiest and cheapest(in all meanings) way to set up for CDG.
Seriously, IMO Elbow is like the most underrated move in this game

Totally agree in almost all settings- until you get to survivors. Then trying it is complete suicide

Sherry: high side kick
Jake: Axe kick
Carla/Ada: backflip/somersault kick

Thanks Yermom and Unfoolish- I Always like hearing the names of moves! Yermom- I got your note but am currently addicted to survivors- I played like 8 hours today- I just got the mode. We can try an UC run over the weekend.

And on a total anal retentive note- is somersault kick an accurate name? Isn't that a gymnastics move in which you place your hands on the floor and roll forward? (kinda like pressing aim forward and x?) cartwheel kick sorta makes more sense, but I guess that's what she technically does when she quick shots with the crossbow- just kinda speculating...
