The RE series has had a very consistent rise in sales and sales trends.

If you were to check their sales history, the last time RE ever got more than 4 million sales in a single release was RE2 back in 1998.

For the next decade, all initial releases of their games, canon or not are around 1.5-2 million copies.

I know I read somewhere that their sales goal for RE5 was 2 million copies, based on the average sales of previous titles but it must have come as a complete surprise when they reached 5 million copies sold in two months.
For the first time in 10 years, they finally exceeded 4 million copies worth of sales with an RE title.

Fanboys can nitpick all they want ("REmake didn't get huge sales because it was exclusive for the GC!!", etc.) but Capcom has found a formula and a fanbase they can make big sales with and they're not about to "return to old school" anytime soon.

Besides, even the senior members of the RE staff already dislike the old school style.
It's been mentioned many times in interviews and even in "The Making Of RE4".

Also RE6 may not have sold more than 2 by the way. If you take a close look at Capcom's platinum page you can see it doesn't tell the whole story. They don't factor in sales from any version of a game that hasn't sold at least a million copies. There was a dual shock version of 2 released a few months later as well as several ports to other systems.

Exactly. Except for PC, every version of RE5 and 6 is accounted for, but then starting with RE4 they split up every version. It makes no sense why they skewed that. This is true with a couple other games too.

I dunno what their point is in picking and choosing which games get everything and which don't. I'd like to see the real sales of all games, not skewed sales where Capcom decides which to split and which to combine.

Well they did that because the versions of RE5 and 6 were released together. I still think it's stupid though because if you're curious about a game's sales you want to see everything, not just whichever versions sold a million copies. You shouldn't have to go digging around on the internet for this info when they could put it on their sales page.

Could be true. It's just hard to take the "RE5 is the highest selling game" when the page that reports this has mixed sales figures. Not that it honestly matters, but I want to see how much RE4 did. I would think that has the most, but who knows. They did just release another version of the PC version....Then there's the PS3 and Xbox sales. Who knows.

Regardless, wanna apologize to Daniel. Because I feel bad. My antics toward him were out of line.

...............Not my statements on Capcom or RE6 though! lol

ANYWAY, this article is relevant!

Here you have Square Enix saying pretty much what I, and many, have been saying about Capcom. Will Square follow this? We'll see. But basically they did exactly what Capcom did....and they failed. Going for those Call of Duty numbers instead of focusing on the game itself. This goes back to the original point in this topic..."demanding RE fans."

If only Capcom would follow this route and make the games they were known to make.

You still don't understand you can't deal in absolute numbers? For the series to be considered equally popular as before, the rise in sales should be proportional to the the rise of the market, and it's simply isn't. Look at pretty much any long running VG franchise, you'll see sales rise over time, and it's simply is the market inflation.

The Elder Scrolls and GTA series have seen massive jumps in sales and popularity. They have both become blockbuster series.

Resident Evil used to be just that, a blockbuster, one of the biggest franchises along street fighter, of one of the biggest editors. If it's no longer a blockbuster, then what does it tell you?

And who decided that should be true? An expanding market does not guarantee a proportional rise in sales, especially with a niche series like RE. Not everyone is going to be interested in the survival horror genre; in addition, there are other survival horror titles out there. There are 20 RE titles. Do you think Capcom would have continued the franchise for so long if what you were addressing was such a concern? Sure, they'd like more people to buy their games but the RE series already has a built in and established customer base. Capcom knows what it's doing.

Who said it was a blockbuster? By whose standards? One of the biggest "editors"? I think you mean publisher/developer. Capcom is big but it pales in comparison to Nintendo and Namco. In terms of market share, Capcom is third in Japan (and well behind Nintendo and Namco, both of whom have market shares in the double digits), 10th in North America and 13th in Europe. Capcom is not, nor has it ever truly been, the juggernaut that you make it out to be. They've done well and are a profitable company but their levels of success and profit overall are shadowed by some of the true giants in the industry.

ITT people still take resident fanboy Edward and fanboy joke account and admitted troll Jin seriously. Leave the unreasonable hipsters wallowing in their special snowflake tears. You can tell when someone is not worth arguing with when they backtrack and the only thing in their posts are hypocrisy and ignorance.
Unlike them , we're actually happy in our lives.
