Apparently RE Revelations (or perhaps future titles that resemble Revs) is going to be the closest that RE classic purists are going to get from Capcom. Capcom-Unity's Sven suggested that classic RE style isn't going to return anymore because the current, broader market requires more handholding , and things like limited typewriter save wouldn't work anymore due to "issues of accessibility". Here's the exact quote:
This is probably a better question for Kawata or Kobayashi, however to throw in my $0.02, Revelations (or perhaps future titles that resemble Revs) is probably the closest RE classic purists are going to get.
We won't forget you guys though... but I can't tell you how or why yet.
That said, if you're looking for pre-rendered backgrounds and fixed camera angles, those are likely to not be present (I know you said dynamic above... just for others asking). The reality is that some of the things you're asking about (objective markers/directional aids, limited save/typewriter ribbons) are issues of accessibility. In today's market, the broader market really demands and requires a bit more handholding than the PS1 gamer of yore. These are generally expected user experience aids in this day and age and the lack of them usally results in negative feedback/lower reviews (and subsequently, lower sales).
In terms of more puzzley stuff, I think that Revelations strikes a really nice balance and I'm sure the feedback we've seen from fans and the media will be taken into account in future projects for what that's worth though.

people need their hands held more? I understand if there just trying to grab a larger target market, but to say its for the crappier gamers of today? that is total BS. --- I still think Pac-Man was the best game and had the best storyline... EVER!!! 'nuff said.
What Capcom doesn't seem to grasp is that most fans of the classic RE don't expect the old style of gameplay to return. We get it, its too outdated for current consoles and expectations. But what we DO want is that they atleast stay true to the roots of the series... Like Silent Hill is doing. Yeah, SH has been getting alot of whining too lately. But atleast you can recognize games like SH: Homecoming as a SH game. And the upcoming game "Downpour" looks to be staying true to the roots of SH while adding new things.
Did anyone else bother to play through lost nightmares in classic camera frame mode? I've been playing re since the directors cut came out on ps1. Re 5 is my favorite. I'm fine with the way the series is progressing. Can't wait till re 6. --- GT: lockeness108
I wouldn't be so mad if 5 had even a decent story but it didn't it was a Total Sh!tfest.Other than the graphics 5 doesn't hold a candle to 1,2,3,CV:X or even 4 at least 4 had SOME Survival Horror Feel to it and had an awesome story I love RE4 but 5 flat out sucked plain and simple.
You HONESTLY think RE4 had a better story than 5? Lol okay.
Resident Evil 5 had a story? --- "COD: Be at the right place, at the right time"-Ragdoll47 QFT
