Can I unlock Ex1 costumes when playing with Ex2 or Ex3?

In mercenaries:
To unlock Jake's Ex1 costume I have to get an A rank with Jake. But can I also unlock it when I use Ex2 Jake and get A rank? For some characters I prefer the Ex choice of weapons.

I would like to unlock Carla Radames and need all Ex1 costumes although they are only a color swap of Ex2 (or the other way around).

No. I tried this last night(god I hate Ada's weapons on her default).

You need to unlock the EX1 by using only with the default costumes.

Really? That's dumb. Especially considering there's no difference between the EX 1 and 2 costumes except for the alternate colors.
