I like everything about the game except for the actual gameplay.

I enjoy everything but to actually play it, the combat, feels like work.

That speaks volumes about "gamers" today.

That's surprising. Are you sure you didn't accidentally turn it on hard mode?

The game does have something called a "No-Sweat Mode," but I didn't think the normal mode took much work.

No, something about the combat mechanics doesn't feel right, it doesn't matter to much I can still enjoy the story.

Not a complaint but something that I found interesting.

I found the gameplay started off pretty mediocre but got better the longer you played as more and more combinations of idols, spirits, weapons, skills, and abilities are found.

The gameplay's pretty standard until you start getting the upgrades and the gods. Once you've gotten the second aspect of the Forge, the weapon and upgrade combinations becomes incredible.

At first I thought the combat was dry but I had some sort of epiphany by the time I realized I was beating the entire game and all vigils of the Who Knows Where with all god idols turned on and I WASN'T GETTING HIT WHILE DOING IT.

Is there something about the way I type that makes it sound angry? Maybe it's just something about the way you read.

You can't have all the idols turned on during your first playthrough. Your story does not add up.

Not getting hit at all in an all idol run is a bit hard to believe, too. Simply finishing the game with all the idols on without dying isn't exactly difficult, but simply bumping into an enemy will do damage with all the idols on.
