What's the best Katana?

Liato?  Uchigatana?  Washing Pole?

Uchigatana

Iaido's attack is lower and it's special R2 doesn't make up for that

Washing is a stat ***** with terrible scaling

Iaito and uchi for damage, different move sets. Washing pole is weakest but greatest range. Dex build is good for the first two, washing pole is better as an elemental.

At 40 Dex I believe the Uchi comes out exactly 10 AR ahead of the Iaito assuming both are +15.

With an AR difference that small it becomes a toss-up of which moveset you prefer, really.

The Washing Pole on the other hand is basically an Uchi with greater range and poorer scaling.

And finally there's the Chaos Blade, which is pretty awful in general.

Sorry... AR?

Attack Rating.

It's just the figure you see on the weapons / status menu.

Not to be confused with damage which is what remains of AR once it's gone through defense(s).

By the way, do Iatio and Uchigatana stun people (when maxed out, say Iatio +15+CMW or Uchigatana +5 lightning)?

My Washing Pole Lightning +5 does in PVP.  Not every hit of course, but it does produce a stun effect.

They are all good, and may the person who said a +15 Washing Pole is crap encounter me some times. That range and speed being enchantable is lethal, and it has only about 30 AR less than an Uchigatana.

But yeah, the Chaos Blade is unfortunately under average, but sometimes I use it for style points.

Washing Pole's incredible range has turned the tide more than once for me, both in PvP and PvE. The sprinting one handed attack and one handed R2 have impressive speed and range...

Sure, the stat scaling sucks, but that's what Elemental weapons are for.

I entirely agree. A Lightning Washing Pole +15 is a great answer for PvPing as it's light, quick and has a lot of range. You also get the lightning damage and 300 bleed. The weapon simply works well against many other weapons - fast enough to get by heavy weapons, long enough to out-range smaller weapons. It's great at keeping backstabbers away and has enough reach with the stab to compete with most spears.

The only real weakness is it's low durability... in which case, just bring some Repair Powder.
