1 handed AR at those stats is 483. 2 handed AR is 506. It's a solid weapon.

My own experience with the Dragonslayer Spear has been pretty good. It's heavy compared to most of the other long spears, but it has a guard break on par with blunt weapons. When I first started using it, I was breaking so many guards without even trying, and eventually, I learned to capitalize on it.

Its become my personal top tier PvP weapon. I prefer it to almost everything else in the game.

It can be a deadly weapon. It has great reach, stun-locks, and a great move set. The only down side is if you spam R1 a good player will easily perry....but that is true with any weapon.

Huh? Now suddenly this weapon is good?

What a strange community I'm living with.

It was always good. There are just some really uneducated players trying to give bad advice around here.

Not so much "bad" as it is outclassed.

You can run a maxed Silver Knight Spear with the following build and it will achieve similar if not better results in terms of damage on average.

Vitality Gouge / Dex (Silver Knight Spear / Chaos Blade / Lifehunt Scythe) (Bandit SL125)

Vitality 70 (Vitality Gouge)
Attunement 12 (2 slots reserved for Pyromancy)
Endurance 40 (Max Stamina)
Strength 16 (One-hand 16 Strength-req weapons / Two-hand 24 Strength-req weapons)
Dexterity 40 (Diminishing returns > 40)
Resistance - 11 (Base)
Intelligence - 8 (Base)
Faith - 10 (Base)

The Dragonslayer Spear requires a more thinly-spread distribution if you want to maximise its output and utility. These are about the best "all-round" DSS builds available at 125, IMO.

Dragonslayer Spear #1 (Cleric or Bandit SL125)

Vitality 40 (Passable)
Attunement 14 (3 slots reserved for Miracles / Pyromancy)
Endurance 40 (Max stamina)
Strength 24 (Qualify for one-handing Dragonslayer Spear)
Dexterity 40 (Diminishing returns > 40)
Resistance 11 (Base)
Intelligence 8 (Base)
Faith 30 (Dragonslayer Spear scaling / Miracle qualification)

Dragonslayer Spear #2 (Cleric or Bandit SL125)

Vitality 40 (Passable)
Attunement 12 (2 slots reserved for Miracles / Pyromancy)
Endurance 40 (Max stamina)
Strength 16 (Qualify for two-handing Dragonslayer Spear)
Dexterity 40 (Diminishing returns > 40)
Resistance 11 (Base)
Intelligence 8 (Base)
Faith 40 (Diminishing returns > 40)

If one intends to use the FaP ring then you can readily drop Endurance down to 30 on either build for 159.xx stamina (basically equivalent to 40 Endurance without the FaP). More so just a point of interest rather than an advantage for either build, since it doesn't exclusively apply to one or the other.

Overall, specialising in using DSS over the SKS means trading a lot of potential survivability (remembering that returns on MotM and FaP increase with higher Vitality) in exchange for a heavier spear with the same length and similar damage output, potentially one more Attunement slot (or not), access to WoG running off a meager 30 Faith, or 40 Faith and a few other negligible Miracles which will likely be untouched with the potential exception of Great Magic Barrier (since this badboy can't be buffed, sadly).

The "guard-breaking" advantage the DSS carries on the other hand is barely a point in one's favour unless you're up against an utter joob (yes, joob). An experienced player will simply take notice of the waning stamina and flip away before the guard is broken. If they're using a green herb in tangent with the ever-present grass crest shield then their stamina will be refilled before you can even close the distance, guaranteed.

DSS is an ideal weapon for darkmoon. Go up to Sl 150, get 34 STR for Greatshield of Artorias, and 50 Faith for super wog.

Having your guard broken is near impossible now, the DSS doesn't bounce off of guard even when 1 handed, and you can always use DSS 1 handed with a talisman in the left so you can use WoG without an obvious telltale swap to a talisman.

I maintain all my builds at 125, even my Darkmoon'ers.

Mainly out of respect for fellow 120-125's who probably get enough SL300-400+ Bad Moon'ers trying to out-muscle them. Not that those jokers are difficult to dispatch.
