I think people are confused. Which world you prefer or find more interesting does not make it deeper. How deep the lore is all in the details around you.

Skyrim has hundreds of books with in depth explanations on why the world is the way it is and on why the people are the way they are. If you ask a question about anything.

After playing through each games you will come out with a much deeper understanding of skyrims world and history. I love dark souls more but we can't even be sure of it's simpler things like if its really havel himself in the watch tower.

Dark souls lore is lacking in information and even a ton of it is deliberate contradictions and lies to further its mystery. Most of the conclusions are brought by heavy speculation and assumptions.

b-but it's deeper because it's so mysterious!

I voted Dark Souls, not because I'm a fanboy, but because of how I define depth in a story.

Anyway, the way I see it, depth in a story is when there is more meaning than presented. To me it's between reading what's there and reading between the lines.

I agree with what a previous poster said about how a short novel could be deeper than LotR, it all depends on how the individual takes it. If they're the kind of person that doesn't read into thematic elements and stuff like that, they might see depth as "there's more presented so it's deeper"....Or if they're the type of person that will read about it and see the big picture, they might be like "oh wow, this short story is pretty deep"

In the end, it's purely subjective. I don't get why people are saying "It's fact that Skyrim is deeper" or "Dark Souls is deeper, anyone that doesn't agree is stupid". Why does it matter to you people what others think?

Whoa, wtf. How the hell is Skyrim winning on the DARK SOULS board no less? Dark Souls is *objectively* the correct answer, and I'm not even kidding or exaggerating when I say that.

I'm pretty sure people who voted Skyrim actually voted for Morrowind/TES series in their heads and not just Skyrim like the poll says. That, or peeps be stupid

I voted Skyrim mainly because of Morrowind actually :P There actually was a lot going on in that game. The political game between the great houses, the religious conflict between the Ashlanders/followers of Nerevarine and the Tribunal, racism/slavery, drug trade, betrayal, etc. Granted Skyrim does have SOME of this (do you help the Stormcloaks win and lower chances of victory against the Thalmor, or help the Imperials because they are the last big faction standing against Thalmors and if you read the right book you find out that Ulfric was a Thalmor agent. Not at the same level as Morrowind though.

I also partly agree with Bissell's article because Oblivion and Skyrim have bad acting and even the facial expressions of the people are bad. In Morrowind everyone did in fact have a very unique accent (dat badass Dunmer accent.) Another point is that one doesn't NEED to listen to the characters talk about the lore in Skyrim when, like he said, they can just use the environments. To read/listen/learn the expository lore in Skyrim and other TES games is purely optional.

I am saying all this despite having Dark Souls above my favorite TES game Morrowind in my favorite games of all time: Dark Souls may be better at gameplay and even having a quirky, interesting way of showing the lore. But Skyrim (and other TES games) have a lot more lore, some better imo and some worse imo than Dark Souls. I think there's enough more interesting in depth lore for it to be considered "superior."
