Dark Souls

Should I wait to play Dark Souls until after Demon Souls?

I'd like to play both games but I currently only have access to Dark Souls. Will I feel like i'm going backwards if I don't play demon souls first?

i.e. Does storyline matter? Are mechanics better / worse? etc.

It doesn't really matter much, they're just... different in some ways.

You can play them in any order. The games are not connected to each other.
