It says in the armor description that it has good slash protection, but looking at the stats it seems average at best. Is there some hidden bonus in protection from slash attacks?

No one really cares about slash, piercing defenses. They are unimportant.

I thought slash defense would be pretty important since the majority seem to use swords.

I believe your better off with the knight/elite knight sets for slash defense in the med armor category.

It has marginally more slash defense than the rest of the same weight class of armors. Which is funny because slash defenses are normally the highest amongst armor sets anyway.

It's like having a shield whose description says it won't drain your stamina when you block arrows. Shields do that anyway.
