I hadn't really been thinking about Castlevania when I did it, I just wanted to see how far I could get through the game with just a regular whip. I didn't have a shield either (whip only) which was the main reason killing the dogs were so annoying.

Ah I see, yeah those dogs can be extremely annoying. I faced em with 22 dex and a +5 whip, which took each one out in 2 hits. Against the Capra Demon I just chucked firebombs at him until he died. Also running upstairs to the lead dogs away from him really helps too.

I just beat the 2 gargoyles last night on my SOTD playthrough, and i'm pretty sure the only reason i beat them was because I had bloody tears going on in the background lol.
