Phantasy Star Online 2 Hacked as an Alleged Prank
Back To: Board List | Topic List | Topic Archived
Free-to-play online game Phantasy Star Online 2 was hacked, and non-playable characters were moved about as, it seems, some sort of prank. In the game's Ship 02 location, non-playable characters were moved out of players reach, making it impossible to interact with important NPCs. As you can see in the screenshots, the non-playable characters were placed on high structures and behind glass. Today, Sega announced that it was aware of the hack and that it was investigating the matter. Sega also stated that player data was not leaked in this hack. If you happen to see non-playable characters moved into funny locations, Sega asks that you move to another play area. If you see cheaters, you can report them via the wicked user form. Japanese sites are blaming foreigners for the attack and are pasting chat transcripts that seem to indicate that the alleged hackers were English speakers who are apparently upset that the game doesn't have global servers. The chat log seems to indicate that these individuals have been doing this since the game's closed beta and that they think they should do this NPC shuffle again. Sega has aggressively being going after cheaters and individuals engaged in real-money trade transactions. So far, 75 accounts have been banned. This alleged griefing could impact how Phantasy Star Online 2, currently in beta in Japan, is rolled out in the West next year. For as much disdain as I have for Sega's management, this is entirely out of line. It's because of people like this that we'll end up getting IP banned. The people involved in the actual hacking could make better use of their time breaking the encryption to get a proper english patch, and actually help the entire community, rather than attacking it. --- Gamefaqs mods are fair and knowledgable. The people that are moving npcs are probably just use some packet sniffing guide or running some scripts they didn't make themselves. They wouldn't have the technical skills to break any sort of encryption --- "Blacker than a moonless night. Hotter and more bitter than Hell itself...That is coffee." - Godot

xtacb posted... yesterday my auto word entries and functions did not work You've been oblivious to notice that AW and other functions of that nature are on the server database and they'll vanish when there's lag or lag from receiving said data. So yes, total coincidence, since it is related to lag and not the hacking.

Well, obviously. The script kiddies are useless, but I'm talking about the ones who developed the hack. I doubt many of those people were involved in this actual attack, but whenever something like this pops up, I'd like to think that what went into that could have gone into something useful instead. --- Gamefaqs mods are fair and knowledgable. I wish people would stop giving these idiot children props by calling them 'hackers' They were using goddamn Cheat Engine, THATS ALL lol. Theres a loophole in gameguard under a certain circumstance with cheat engine, its not hacking lmao Its the equivalent of gamesharking ok? They arent even script kiddies, theyre just using codes and ****. Ignore it and forget about it. Giving the morons attention is the last thing you should do. Dont post about it unless youre gonna post on segas forums to give evidence to report the users guilty of it The only reason asswipe kids like broomop still play these games is because dumbass kids still give him legendary amounts of attention for it, instead of promptly reporting him and getting him banned --- Guardian Gamer X "CE's verbal cruelty is only matched by an eight-armed robot beating multiple baby seals."-PursuitandTie
