Cannot allocate more RAM to minecraft?

I've tried both methods (using the .BAT and the control panel ---> Java thing) but neither of them work, for some reason.

Note:
- I have 8GB of RAM
- I am using Java SDK 7, but it didn't work with SDK 6 either
- I'm lost :(

Starting a server?

Have you tried craftbukkit?

Nope, I want to allocate more memory to Java (sorry, should have been more precise)

Are you getting that error that basically stops your game and says, "Needs moar memory!" or what?

If so, uninstall Java and then reinstall the 64-bit one (I assume you have a 64-bit OS and aren't wasting roughly half of that 8GB of RAM).

I had the same problem and this fixed it.

If not, IDK.
