I've never tried to create a server, but I would think that using your default gateway as the server IP would be super duper ultra wrong. Nobody but you can connect to your router. Go to whatismyip.com and use your external IP.

We had to set up a vpn with Hamachi. Its how we do most of our multiplayer games anymore.

I have my own server and the default gateway is what I use. Works for me and my cousin.

Alright, so I managed to set on up, using "localhost"

However, my friends still cannot connect using the IP I get from whatsmyip.org:25565

I had some trouble doing this as well, so here are a few things that you could try/check:

- Make sure the port is forwarded and forwarded correctly (TCP/UDP, port 25565, correct IP for the computer that the server is on, etc)
- In the server.properties file, try leaving the Server IP section blank (mine wouldn't work with any IP that I tried, I had to have it blank)
- When connecting internally, use the IP you get from 'ipconfig', while externally use the one from the 'whatismyip' site
- Try connecting with and without including the port. EX without: "192.168.0.3", EX with: "192.168.0.3:25565" (forums suggest adding the port, my friend could only connect without it)
- Wait until it shows "Done!" on the server's console (I have impatient friends >.<)

server-ip= MY IP from IPConfig3?
server-port=25565
max-players=20
level-name=world

There's your problem. Try having that as just "server-ip=" ie the default with address afterwards.
