So.... I've built a house... (using dirt, something wrong with that?) and at night, sometimes monsters spawn inside it. Last time a mob exploded and blew my item shelf :(

Monsters spawn in dark places. Place more torches inside your house to prevent spawning. Also, farm animals like Cows can spawn anywhere there is grass, so if you don't like that, just replace the floors. --- http://www.youtube.com/user/Terrafuror <--- My Youtube Channel "At night, I look upon potatoes with lust in my eyes." - The Lich King
One more thing. When the sun rises, are all the mobs supposed to die? because when I get out of the house, a green bastarrd explodes, and blows my house :(

They and spiders survive day. But spiders will not attack you in daylight. --- o---|==================> GT: KITTYONFYRE

lol, Creepers. They'll be there every morning, waiting for you to come outside. Welcome to Minecraft. They don't burn in sunlight (neither do spiders), but skeletons and zombies do. --- *disappears into forest*
Are there any type of blocks that survive the explosion damage?

Obsidian does. Good luck mining lots of it though, it takes forever and a day.

To clarify, Obsidian appears when water touches "still" lava blocks, lava that isn't flowing. Obsidian requires a Diamond Pick and even then, each block takes 15 seconds to mine. --- http://www.youtube.com/user/Terrafuror <--- My Youtube Channel "At night, I look upon potatoes with lust in my eyes." - The Lich King
