How to light up house?

#1CrossfadertylerPosted 1/27/2011 4:44:51 PM
I just crafted my first torches but I'm afraid they might burn down my wood house.
Also, I don't know how log they will last? How can I make something that wil be a safe and permanent lighting solution?

Torches do not burn wood, and currently last forever.

Torches can't burn things down, so you're safe. Also, they're permanent and will last forever.

EDIT: Ninja'd

There's no more advanced source of light? Like lanterns?

Glowstone from the nether works, and you can make jack-o-lanters.

Forgot those.

Not at the moment, no. However there are a couple alternatives such as jack-o-lanterns which you can make by finding a pumpkin and combining it with a torch, as well as lightstone blocks which you can collect the dust to create by destroying some in the nether.
Those are the only light options right now, unless you want to use loose fire or lava, which actually would burn down your house.

Not now, no. Notch has said he has plans to add lanterns and make torches temporary, and in fact this feature was supposed to be released during the Halloween update, but he hasn't followed through.

Torches last forever. They don't burn anything except for Snow and Ice. Wood, logs, dirt, cobblestone, etc is safe.

Now, using Flint/Steel to light up your house on the other hand... o_O
