Is there a way to create clay?

#1Louisville15Posted 2/17/2011 1:56:04 PM
I have a lot of sand and small spots of water sort of near my house, but the nearest clay is quite a ways away. I'm trying to brick my house and I need clay for the bricks, so is there any way that I can somehow make a big lake using the sand and turn the surrounding blocks to clay or something? If not, anyone have tips for harvesting the clay that is really far away? I'm afraid I'll either get lost or be far away when it gets dark (causing me to get lost and most likely die). Any advice?

Not if you don't have a mod. Also, just get a compass and take a boat out looking for some.

Isn't the compass really hard to make? Keep in mind I'm kind of new to this game and I don't have many tools/items... so if it requires a lot I probably can't make it.

It requires 4 iron ingots and 1 redstone dust. You can get that pretty fast.
Or you can just leave a trail or torches to wherever the clay is. Dig into a mountain at night and just wait it out.

I'm afraid that I'll fall into a deep cavern or something D:

...should I just dig in a cave, or what? There is one really close to my house so I guess I could safely (?) explore in that one,... I've just been using it for coal and cobblestone so far.

Shouldn't I have a weapon at the very least? I don't even have that :(

90% of the time I don't take weapons mining. I find I can brick up monsters, or create walls blocking them off using the massive amounts of cobblestone you'll find. Just take torches and picks. Maybe a spade for the gravel and dirt.
