Minecraft running out of memory..?

#1RossMcSaucePosted 6/2/2011 3:49:16 PM
This started happening to me as soon as I started making maps and exploring...

First, pieces of the map will stop loading. As you can see, the underground cave systems are visible through the holes in the world.

Then, after wandering around a bit, I get this message.

Anyone else currently having this issue?

Got the same error trying to make a world, or do anything with the realistic 256 x 256 texture pack

How much RAM does your PC have? Try closing all other programs and run Minecraft alone.

8gb of RAM. That shouldn't be an issue, I never had any problems ever until this patch. Nothing else is running.

Okay, I did it with the f3 thing activated, and I can very clearly see in the top right corner that all the memory is NOT being used. Dammit... No one else is having this issue? This sucks.

Get 64 bit Java.

Yes, Notch is so bad at memory management he needs the full 64 bit address space.

Hmm... maybe you can try reinstalling it? Dunno...

This is a bug/glitch with the mapmaking thing. It's not freeing up memory like it should. If you hit F3 and watch the RAM as you walk around you'll see it goes up...then after a while back down... but it doesn't go back down as much as it went up... so after a while, you get that message or the game just locks up and your map is corrupted.

If you're going to play while it's buggy like this you should probably get used to running the game with the F3 info turned on, and if you see the RAM climb past 80, just save, quit the game completely (exit minecraft) and then start again. It may take longer for some people than for others, but if you do any extensive exploring to fill up a map you'll see it sooner or later.

That's the weird thing though, I checked that and the memory usage isn't going above 30-40%. It's odd.
