From Minecraft Forums: "Adventure Mode will replace Survival."

This is the "adventure update." There is no adventure mode, unless they're just calling survival mode adventure mode. Adventure mode is something Notch vaguely described a year ago and hasn't mentioned it since.

I recall a link (that I don't have) that stated adventure mode would lack the ability to place/ destroy blocks so that players could make challenging maps.

I read something about that too. It should be something like: Creative = "do whatever you want, no restrictions". Survival = "do whatever you want, but you have to gather the resources yourself". Adventure = "play this map that someone else designed in Creative or Survival, reach the goal that they set for you, many restrictions on what you can do".

Of course, as has been pointed out thousands of times, this "adventure update" coming up is all just new features for Survival Mode (and the addition of Creative Mode). There isn't actually an Adventure Mode yet and we don't know when it will be created.

From what I've gathered, Adventure Mode IS Survival Mode. There is no difference AT ALL between the two except the word "survival" is going to be replaced with "adventure" when we get that huge update to revamp the gameplay. Its not a new mode replacing Survival, its just an update for Survival which turns it into Adventure Mode. Breaking blocks, placing blocks, fighting mobs, and making epic structures to hold your loot is what Survival Mode is now and what Adventure Mode is going to be.

Sorry to tell you, but you're wrong.

No he's right. The burden of proof is on you to show that there will be separate survival and adventure modes.

He's talking about Adventure Mode in the context it's used in the initial post. So, sorry to tell you, but you're wrong.

I find it amusing when people talk about griefing and Adventure mode like they're real things. The Minecraft community is just stupid.

Survival = Survival

Adventure UPDATE = Survival 2.0

I don't see the problem here.

No he's right. The burden of proof is on you to show that there will be separate survival and adventure modes.

The author of the Minecraft forums post = A user called Sacheverell. He posted stuff like "Notch said"; and while most of it has been verified in videos with Notch himself speaking, at PAX, there has been no video proof of Notch or the team disavowing Adventure Mode.

As of this moment, the "proof" that there will be an Adventure Mode is here:

http://notch.tumblr.com/post/779956568/the-rationale-for-redstone
https://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/81798155326341120

The first is Notch explaining that redstone was initially developed for the hypothetical Adventure mode. The second is Jeb making clear that the Adventure update is not Adventure mode.

The IGN video I saw of Notch demoing 1.8 had two modes - Creative and...Adventure? Nope! Survival! He still called it Survival himself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcNgWEhlAxg

So I have words from the creator himself saying he would be developing Adventure mode; Jeb clarifying 1.8 was an Adventure update and not the Adventure mode; and Survival mode still being used and referred to as such by Notch. Your proof is...a user from the Minecraft forums.

Which "proof" is more reliable?
