In Need of a Fortune Tool

#1DarkPhysalisPosted 11/28/2011 8:18:08 AM
Tried my hand at enchanting last night in hopes of getting a pickaxe with the Fortune enchantment but failed.

I looked at the wiki but I'll confess I'm a bit lost and need some help. So if I understand correctly for some reason iron tools seem to be the best bet. What I'm not sure on is what level enchantment I need to get a good chance at the Fortune I enchantment. Also what level for a good chance at getting a higher level enchantment?

Also I assume the text that appears when enchanting is a good indicator of what the enchantment will be, if so what do I need to look for when trying to get a Fortune enchantment?

you'll need an investment of at LEAST 20 levels to see any decent results, and it's better if you're using 30+ anyway

Enchanting is a lot of luck. I'm pretty sure the symbols that show up mean nothing. There are a few random numbers chosen during the process of enchanting, so it's really hard to give you a specific number you need to have. Honestly, Fortune is not that easy to get. It's more than likely going to take you several tries unless you get really lucky.

It might be possible to get fortune at level 10 or so, but all the numbers would have to be heavily in your favor, and chances are that won't happen. I would at least wait until you are over level 20 before enchanting if you want any hope of getting Fortune. Anything in the 30's or 40's, will probably increase your chances a bit more, and I think you can only get Fortune II or III at higher levels.

Also, I'm pretty sure using an Iron pick hardly increases your odds at all versus using a diamond pick. Technically a gold pick is the best, but having fortune on that wouldn't do you much good lol.

Yeah, avoid the gold tools, they're worthless for Fortune

since Fortune affects diamonds, and gold can't harvest them.

Nope, the text is gibberish and random, it has no purpose or effect toward getting any specific enchantments.

It does have no effect, but it isn't random gibberish. There's a list here of the words that were used: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Enchanting#Enchantments

its all random word combinations. gibberish in the sense that it doesnt make sense read as a sentence and random in the sense that they dont choose your enchantment but not gibberish in the sense that they are real words(excluding 1 misspelled i think).
