I was watching this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJmZDQZFWDg

Unless it's been changed since then, it seems like all you need to do to steal from somebody else's, is to build your own, then look in a window, and use their colors on your chest. On large servers, you could just take a couple of guesses, and bound to find a target.
All your theories are correct.
Any contradictions are only to throw off suspicion.

The ender chest in vanilla isnt the same as that mod. There's no color combination or anything. Everyone just shares the same ender chest in SMP.
Like it or leave it. Hey, where are you going?

No one will use it in SMP in it's current state. There is only one chest that everyone access as it is now.

Could be used as a "Take an emerald, leave and emerald." type thing, lol.
If someone buys a book, then sells that book to another. The publisher gets nothing. The used video game market should work the exact same way.

Actually it could have a really practical use. You could station a chest in every city/area on the map. Then if you need to borrow something from someone far away they can put it one chest and you can grab it from another.
If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

As long as servers don't use the Allocator mod, then I can see how Enderchests could work as a long distance drop type of deal.

Still awesome for griefing as someone can just sit in one spot deep underground and constantly refresh the chest looking for items to steal.

Can't wait.

Chances are this will be changed for a player to have his own "Private" enderchest.

Like Terraria? But then you can't share across distances. The kind of griefing I described is a legitimate tactic in a no rules PVP server and could easily be prevented by an admin in any other server.

Private enderchests are a good idea, but should be separate items.

"No, I wanted it to have a drawback, and it makes more sense that it's the same chest for everyone"
