Oh wow. Somewhat limited utility in survival, but I can see adventure map creators absolutely loving that beacon. And it gives an additional use for Emeralds, which was probably needed.

Edit: Does the pyramid have to be solid emerald blocks? Or can the inside be something like dirt?

Absolutely amazing. At last, the rest of the potion effects are making their way into the game. I've wanted this for a long time. I saw on a thread on the minecraftforums the guy had haste and jump boost effects, which is awesome. They also mentioned they think if you get outside a certain radius from the beacon, the effects are cancelled. Anyone know if this is true?

It seems that the primary effect that you chose doesn't run out when in proximity to the altar. When it hits zero, it goes back up to the top. So when you're nearby one of these, you'll continually regenerate the effect.

If you walk back into the effectual range, you get the effect back. So it seems like you're not sacrificing a material, but using it as a battery. I don't know how to turn off the beacons now.

The range seems to be about 35 blocks. But since the timer is only 8 or so seconds per effect, these effects practically beg to only be used in the range of the altar.

Can you compound their effects?

I don't know. The game crashed on me when I was experimenting with the altars (not the actual name), and so I need to rollback my version and saves.

I just read if you choose jump boost as both primary and secondary you can jump higher.

Also read that night vision potion makes you see clearly underwater. Good to know.

Right now I'm just going off of other reports. I can't experiment for myself:

- Pyramids need to be solid for the altar to work.
- They generate effects for an undetermined amount of time, just as long as the pyramid remains in tact.
- All the blocks in the pyramid need to be a single block type.
- The only blocks you can build the pyramid of, and materials you can sacrifice, are iron and gold ingots, diamonds and emeralds.
- Building a new layer of the pyramid up to four gives you more effects, and increases the range of the pyramid by 8 blocks (for a total of 40).

Known new commands are:

/weather <clear,rain,thunder> [duration in seconds]
/difficulty <peaceful/easy/normal/hard>
