You are sure you're connected to the same router network?

Try actually connecting the server ip that is generated. I've had different experiences with different laptops, sometimes it finds it automatically but sometimes you just need to type in the ip manually.

Do you and your bro share a user ID? You need two separate premium accounts to use the LAN feature.

Well if whenever you click Open to LAN, that is what allows them to connect with each other. If it crashes whenever you try to Open the world, then I don't know how to help you.

Make sure your firewall isn't blocking MC.

First up, double-check the firewall settings on BOTH computers, as this may be the first time Minecraft (& Java itself) is asking to allow a connection on your LAN (instead of online, there IS a difference here).

Depending on what type of firewall program you're using (even if it's just Window's built-in one), this can cause the majority of headaches here.

Second, check your router settings. While I highly doubt that you'll need to make any changes there, you can never be too sure. Sometimes adding a port forwarding setting might help, although that's more geared towards hosting stuff online than in-network.

Hope this helps!
