For anyone else using turtles for mob farms...

If you're playing in multiplayer, do you seem to have a problem with turtle.attack() giving a false after using it in the LUA? i can't seem to get the melee turtles working even though i added permission to buildcraft, computercraft, etc...

Well... considering i had an horde of creepers, and tried with myself in front of it and it didn't work... i don't think an entity being in front of it was a problem.

If you are using minecraft 1.4.7, there is a bug in that version of computercraft where turtle.attack() won't work unless there is a mob right in front of the turtle, and I mean right in front as in, the mob has to be touching the turtle, not just be in the block space in front of the turtle. This is fixed in minecraft 1.5.2.

Yeah i was reading about it, kinda disappointing, took the time and patience to farm a blaze, skeleton, zombie and creeper tier 5 shards... ._.'

So.... besides edenic bees and drop mob traps, is there any other way for xp farms?

Grinder, it gives mob essence which is basically liquid EXP. Just push the mobs right into it, works fine for me.

You can still do a tier 5 blaze farm xp farm with melee turtles in 1.4.7 if you push the blaze up to the melee turtles using water or I guess conveyor belt from MFR. As someone that hasn't really played with MFR, I find this to be a really good way to get xp, especially if you program an anvil+xp turtle to collect the xp for you and enchant/repair your stuff for you. But I hear MFR has some really cool stuff that allows automatic enchanting as well. But I always prefer using computercraft/turtles whenever possible.

Also, if you are doing drop farms where the mobs fall down a chute and the melee turtle is suppose to attack it to kill it, you could just put three or four melee turtles around the entire chute base and have them all attack. This worked for me for my tier 5 wither skeleton grinder.

Oh WOW i forgot about mob essence! thanks titan

And about the turtle touching the enemy, it was being pushed INTO it by water and tried turtle.attack() in the LUA and it kept returning false, ill just wait till 1.5.2 for a mob grinder
