Vagrant Story/Dark Souls

Has anyone played the former?
Halfway through the Undead Burg, I had a shocking sense of Deja Vu.

Dark Souls plays and feels uncannily similar to Vagrant Story. Apart from a few gameplay inequities, as this game is a lot smoother.
Whilst the overall tone of both games are still remarkably unique to each other. At times I felt like I was back on my PS1.

Anyone agree?

Apart from the stop-and-start gameplay of VS, I think I can agree.
I've never gotten more lost in a game than I did in Vagrant Story.

I hated that game! I got a lot of stick for my review

And yet I see the similarity to Dark Souls which I have "enjoyed" for weeks now.

You know you are right....
Your post made me think about it and although I cant put my finger on it, there is something strangely similar about the two titles.

I think it has to do with the way the castles are designed and the way that both games reward carefully and methodical way of advancing through the world.

Im a huge fan of both games btw :)

From what I can remember, yeah I agree. I haven't played VS for ages though so can't remember it all that well. I do remember it being awesome though.

Ha, I totally do!
A few times over the course of this game, I was reminded of Vagrant Story as well.
The atmosphere, the weapon upgrades... those were the days man.

rofl

I wondered when someone else would mention this.

This was the first thing that struck me as I go into this game XD

Shame it lacks Vagrant Story's depth though.
