Best overall pvp build?

#1MrtyuPosted 4/8/2012 4:02:05 PM
I've tried all the builds i can think of apart from a cleric or hybrid build and from my experience the dexterity was the best for pvp but on ng+ got relatively weak, the sorcerer outputs the highest damage but is useless for pvp on his own and finally the strength build seems quite good but you have to get the timing right as he gives everyone his back.
I know it all comes down to the player but is there an overall best build?

Starter is bandit

27 str, 40 dex, 59 vit, 40 end, and 12 attunement.

Main hand a bastard sword +15 (with those stats its only 10 points less damaging than a murakumo which has A dex scaling... go figure) and a shotel (or another quick dex weapon of your choice for surprise attacks when they think all you have is the Bastard)

Off hand a shield of your choice (grass crest is what I would use)

Wolf ring and dwgr, wear havels leggings and silver knight gloves, with black cleric robe and whatever headgear you wish (I guess momma mask is good for the extra health, or crown for the extra swag... Id go with the crown)

Use the mist and then power within inside it so your opponent doesnt realize (unless of course its visually visible in PvP that you have it active, I wouldnt know)

I guess this is what I would use. Or reduce str to 26, and vitality to 40, and pump faith up to 30 and instead of the power within tactics use WoG. Or keep the mist, but change the shotel to a weapon with a ranged attack (golems axe/DSS) and use that inside the mist when opponent doesnt know you have that weapon.

Then again, I am pretty sure if someone plays better than you then you can make the "perfect" build however you want to, he will still outplay you in the end.

I'm not sure why you would pump vit that high and then not use the ring of favor and protection. You could raise end and lower vit and end up with more hp and higher poise.

Imo absent lag and chain stabbing the best build is a 2h str/fai build, but I think backstabs make anything with the dwgr viable.

Sorry, should have phrased that as: "that's a nice build but fyi you could probably wear the rofp drop vit add end and have more hp and higher poise."

You dont really need more than 77 poise for anything, which is exactly what this build gives. And I dont think the extra 2-300 health the fap ring or the mom mask offer on their own make a big difference when already getting hit for 3-400ish damage by good players - if you decide to take both though, then thats an extra 500ish which is quite a lot.

And good players will just let you swing at air wildly while they wait for your precious DMB to run out.

If backstab building, then chaos rapier with hornet ring is the standard build I guess. Then again, some people are butthurt over the hornet ring so you might be considered cheap.

I just use sunlight blade so when I see someone else using sunlight blade I don't have to run in circles for forty seconds. I personally think higher poise is under rated, but I understand the position. Under that theory I'd definitely use mom and the rofp.

Overall, I think there are two viable pvp approaches: (1) 2handing a big weapon with heavy armor and high hp, and (2) flipping around fishing for bses. I think turtle builds and caster builds just can't compete overall, but can look great in certain circumstances. I think approach (1) can involve a lot of strategy in setup and char design, but the play itself is really straightforward, while approach (2) is the exact opposite - even low level toons can compete against 125s if you land that first bs.

I think this stuff is really interesting and welcome any thoughts.

There is no best overall best build so get out of that mindset quickly otherwise you are restricting yourself.

Depends on style, you will likely win the most with the following equipment build:
Mask of the Father
Giants Set
Rapier +5 Chaos / Rapier +5 Lightning
Shield of Choice
Hornet's Ring
Darkwood Grain Ring

Starting Class: Pyromancer
Vitality: 99
Endurance: 41
Str: 7
Dex: 12
Attunement: 14 (3 stacks of Greater Combustion)
Intel: x
Faith:x
Res:x

The build is entirely reliant on Backstabs and parrying. That sounds like a disadvantage at first, but after you get used to it, this is probably the most consistent PvP build.
I do not advocate the use of this build, due to "bore" factor, but I would argue it to be the "best" in a vacuum.
