I gave Andre the blacksmith my large ember. I didn't insult him and I didn't mistreat his daughter but he refuses to upgrade my weapons past 5 he will only downgrade them. Whut th feck! Has this happened to anyone else? This is the reasion I am having so much trouble with the weapon system in this nasty game. I have all the other requirements to get the weapons up. I did give the smith in new londo an ember, dont remember which but hr doesnt seem much use up till now. Cheers | |

Andre wants to see YOU go Hollow. The only thing I can guess is what z1hayze said; you Reinforce up to a certain point, then you can Modify the weapon, then you Reinforce again. Not exactly the most intuitive thing, but it's not impossible to figure out. Yep that did it. Many of the menu structures are unintuitive. If it wasnt done on purpose than it would be called bad design. This is in fitting with the rest of the game where annoying and servere limitations are placed on all aspects to raise the difficulty level. Thanks for the solution. The upgrade system is nutz though. | |

I seem to remember pointing you towards several excellent sources of information about the upgrade system in an earlier topic? Did you read any of them or are you just going to keep complaining? | |
It's not the menu's fault, it's just that you need to talk to Andre to have him explain the difference between reinforcement and ascension and then understand intuitively that ascensions are one time things and that you don't keep going back to the ascension menu to continue reinforcing a weapon you just ascended. So reinforce it to +5. Ascend it to +6. Then reinforce it to +10. Then you can ascend it to either +11 or Lightning +1 and reinforce from there to either +15 or Lightning +5. You could also ascend to Fire or Magic or Divine from +5 reinforcement and then progress up those paths until you ascend them into +6 on Fire/Magic/Divine or switch them over to Chaos/Enchanted/Occult +1 then reinforce from there into either +10 Fire/Magic/Divine or +5 Chaos/Enchanted/Occult. --- Is there something about the way I type that makes it sound angry? Yes you did they are bookmarked and read and you have been thanked for your excellent advice and rescources. The menu usage wasnt obvious to me. I like parts of the game but it has been built and designed with a high frustration factor. Perhaps you played the last version, I didn't. I am complaining because for me it is a way of blowing off steam. At no time are my intentions to insult members here. Thanks to the replies here the upgrades are working. heavyacademic posted... Ah ok. Divine Iaito +5 is not in Andre's list of 'modify weapon' so I can make it +6. He has the large ember. I have loads of large titanite shards. The only option I get is to undo ascention and loes materials. Yes I read all the info but there is something I am missing. | |

You need to give Andre the Divine Ember to create Divine weapons. You find the Divine Ember after beating the Moonlight Butterfly. |
