It's definitely not the best weapon, but it's effective. It's got the same stats as the Uchigatana, but has a longer reach (sometimes deceptively long when you're on the receiving end of one). It is slower than the Uchi, though, and relatively easy to punish with a parry. It's the exact same move set as the Uchi, too (if I remember right).

The stat requirements to use it over the Uchi aren't worth it in my opinion. I'd rather invest those into VIT and END. But if you've got the stats already, it's not a bad choice, and pretty much anything is better than the Drake Sword once upgrade a bit.

don't focus on "best weapon", as there isn't one. The best weapon for you may be different than the best for me, just use the weapon with the moveset you like the most.

That said the drake sword is not good, and is really a crutch for early game.

By the bonfire in blighttown you should have something better than the drake sword. I like the halberd and winged spear, but the claymore is also very popular.

The Drake sword is really deceiving. It seems so great at first, then you realize there are MUCH better options out there. It is good for a little while

Yes, have some....

Uchigitana is much better than Washing pole, but the Washing Pole is fine for elemental and it has good reach.

I don't care for the washing pole-- it does NOT scale well with dex, like the Iaito or the Uchi.

Personally, my favorite of the katana type weapons is definitely the Iaito, just for the moveset.

If you invest enough into STR to take advantage of the D scaling and have a high DEX, at +15 it can actually have about the same power as a +15 Uchi at 40 DEX. But again, it requires suboptimal stat investment.

You recommend investing stats into something with D scaling?

I like the Dragonslayer Spear for its ranged lightning attack. Too bad its durability goes down so quickly.
