I just killed pinwheel and entering Tomb of the Giants a giant skeleton attacked me. I fought it for like 10 seconds and then boom popped up Disc read failed. Now whenever I try to access that character while its loading it pops up "Disc read failed."

Is there a solution to this problem or is just that character corrupted. The character a group of friends play still works. Do you guys know if its my disc or my xbox? I don't want to get back there with a new character and get owned.

Do you get the same error message with all your game disks or just Dark Souls?

Have you inspected the disk for damage?

Are you able to create and play a new character?

The game has been installed to my HDD since I got it last week. No visible damage and is a fairly new disk. I can make a new character and play another old one. Other games are fine I think that character got screwed. I'm afraid to get to the catacombs again :(

I feel your pain but I don't think the nasty skeletons corrupted your data.

Or perhaps we are just beginning to understand what these creatures are capable of?

If your save is corrupted, the game will freeze/lock up when you try to load a save file.

Disc read error seems like a problem with the disc.
