I don't remember the game giving me any options on what difficulty to play on, so how do I choose? I'm actually sort of interested now that I can get extra experience, gald, and carry over my capacity cores.

Just open up the options menu the one where you can turn the voices in battle on and off since the same menu contains the difficulty settings: Normal Hard Very Hard or Unknown with the last 2 being must beat the game first to access.

But since I ended a first playthrough with only 2500 to 3000 grade a Very Hard/Unknown mode run is impossible when Arietta Coral castle has tons of HP and only loses 1 of it per hit making the battle take hours.

Oh, okay.

Another thing, when do the missable sidequests start? I'm at Engeve.

As long as you talk to him between Sleeping in Engeve the First Time and Entering Akzeruth, the box wil be in the Cheagle Woods and he'll take it.

Well my point is without x10 exp a Unknown mode run isn't worth it and the said Arietta boss fight is fought earily enough to be annoying at only 1 HP in damage using any attack/arte/spell.

But with my lowsy grade I couldn't even by x2 exp so the said boss on Very hard will lose 1 HP per hit as well and have 5000+ HP to drain.
