Yes, mostly because it's cheap and non-Elemental. They are the best AA.

Added to your statement.

In cases where the level allows you to place Harpoon Towers in a level spot to the Wyverns entry point, they are still considered the better option because of their piercing nature (and longer range).

Harpoons are much less accurate than MM though.

Unless you can place your harpoon directly facing the line of travel of the wyverns, I would avoid it and use a MM instead. Harpoons are terrible at shooting enemies that are moving anywhere but straight into or straight away from them.

so place them directly facing the path they will come from, if you've run the map once, you should know exactly where the Wyverns come from, so there shouldn't be a problem. I use Harpoons solely for Wyverns, and i never have any problems.

Rule 1. I am always right.
Rule 2. If in any case I appear wrong, refer to rule 1.

IMO MM are way better than harpoons. They're cheaper and don't miss.

That's all fine and dandy, but now we've established that harpoons require much more delicate positioning and cost what, double or even more than double the DU of a MM tower?

There are many crystals that only need 1 MM to defend from wyverns. Take for example the north crystal on Glitterhelm insane. One MM will do nicely. Or you can build a harpoon there and take up all the more DU.

edit: it all makes sense now, I thought your name was familiar. lol

MM will be even better now they've increased the monks ensnare and lightning DU costs.
Saving precious DU using MM rather than harpoons seems like the smart choice.

MM + ensare aura is capable of handling 2-3 wyvern spawns with no trouble, even on insane. that's only 1 MM tower, not a harpoon for each wyvern spawn.

You just lost the game.

Harpoons are horrible AA. Even when placed correctly they somehow manage to miss sometimes.

Leave the AA to an Apprentice.
