Chiming in myself, being a huge uncharted fan, I think there are pros and cons to both games, and they are about equal.
Tomb Raider, definatly has better, and more varied gun and melee combat, the stealth kicks uncharteds ass. The controls and fluidity of it all really are top notch.
Uncharted on the other hand, can not be matched graphically, and the set pieces are still out of this world more epic than anything in Tomb Raider. The ensemble of characters are more likable in Uncharted in my opinion (even just based on U1)
so to me they both had there great qualities, and their shortcomings.
This is an unbelievable start for Lara... can anyone imagine how FANTASTIC TR2 and TR3 will be?(honestly, compare U1 to U2. U3 had big shoes to fill and it matched them) Lets just let it go folks, games take from other games, and they better each other for OUR sake... Both of these franchises have provided fantastic games.
I admit Uncharted 2 and 3 are dated. I love both games. But some credit should be given for they are still good games. If U2 didn't come out and set what the standard adventure game should be. I doubt TR would've turned out even as good as U2 was. --- http://tinyurl.com/8w2apgs http://tinyurl.com/bw627sd
Symach, It seems to me that you are actually troll#1, your topic subject reads: "I am going to compare this game to uncharted, so stop with the comparisons already"
You then go on to explain why you believe that the game is better than uncharted, not why your tired of hearing others compare the two.
I personally think both games are great. I'm only a few hours in but am really enjoying it.
I prefer the duck and cover battle mechanics of Uncharted, as this seems to be somewhat an automated process in TR, and I think the CQC is lacking in TR (this seems non-existent, although i know you can unlock moves later on).
With that said I've been really impressed with the bow mechanics, and realism in the game. And the 'open-world' feeling paired with the hunting and scavenging really helps portray the survivalist feeling in the game.
As for the storyline, so far so good. And the visuals cannot be faulted in either game and they both have very beautiful cinematic moments and panoramic views.
I'd put it on par with Uncharted 2 overall, but I think the combat is better in TR and the collapsing / running sections feel more natural too. It's absolutely better than Uncharted 3 by a desert mile.
Seems, judging by some topics I saw, the rabid PS3 fanbase seem to need this to not be as good as an Uncharted game just because it's multi-platform and that seems to threaten their exclusive series...or some nonsense. Meanwhile, us gamers probably play both series and enjoy them both.
I actually have this on the PS rather than Xbox. I'm usually an Xbox gamer but my GF wanted to play this game too.
My Xbox is in my gaming room and the PlayStation is in the living room so it made sense to get this for the PS...... unless i really enjoy the multiplayer in which case I'll prob pick it up on xbox too once the price drops.
Nearly everything Uncharted did this game does better in varying degrees, from enemies and weaponry, to exploration and climbing, and most importantly: proper stealth and melee combat. The only thing Uncharted has over this is the fantastic sidekicks and the neat notebook mechanic. Sully is flat out amazing, and Chloe wasn't half bad herself.
It's not exactly a good Tomb Raider game however, due to the lack of the actual raiding of any remotely decent tombs, the violence being stupidly excessive, and the awful QTEs. Still a good game, though.
Well, Uncharted is better. Tomb Raider is fine, but Uncharted 2 has received universal acclaim and is widely considered to be one of the best games of its genre. --- Coolest guy/gal on the planet: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/user.php?=2426382
I enjoy Tomb Raider much more because I get to play as Lara Croft, and I love how the game is all about survival. It's really intense, and I'm always scared to get Lara killed because I hate seeing her get hurt. There's a connection that I can never get with Drake. I could care less about that character. The gameplay mechanics are also far superior, especially the beautiful auto cover system. I love it. Best I've seen so far.
So yea,Tomb Raider is the clear winner for me. Nothing wrong with people liking Uncharted more though. We all have different preferences. Let's just agree that both games are amazing.
