Possible Spoilers - Higher war assets and impact on final battles and story?

#1mpd49Posted 3/15/2012 9:20:36 AM
Okay, I finished this last night, but only had "50%" war assets though I'm fairly certain I actually have more - a few questions:
1. This board seems to offer 2 different opinions on raising this above 50% - one is to play on-line and another is to search all planets for artifacts, are both true, is one better than the other if my goal is to get to 100%
2. Does this increase from 50 to 100 impact the final battles, are they any easier because I have more assets? Do more characters survive because of this?
3. How does the story change, if it does at all?

I did search on these questions, but the answers seem to vary. Appreciate the help.

I have never got my EMS past 54% by playing campaign only. I have a 5985 War Assets. So I player the game with 3142 and saved everybody but shepard and anderson but killed the reapers. The best and fastest way to get the Galactic readiness up is to play multiplayer. If you choose random on Bronze it goes up by 4%(in all 6 areas). The ending does change but barely. You would need to have a 5000+ EMS with 100% Paragon or 100% Renegade (to keep Anderson alive) and then destroy the reapers. You'll get the best ending if you o that.

People get confused here. You have two asset totals. First is total military strength (TMS). This is the sum of all assets you've acquired. The second is effective military strength (EMS). EMS is the stat that ultimately matters in determining your ending. It is calculated by multiplying TMS by Galactic Readiness.

Now to unlock the third ending, you need about 2800 EMS if I remember right. If you have 4000+ EMS and choose the Destroy ending, you unlock a short bonus scene.

When you hear people say they get more than enough assets to get this bonus scene, they are usually mistaking TMS for EMS. It is not possible to get 4000+ EMS without playing multiplayer. I haven't heard of anyone getting higher than 7500 TMS, which is not high enough with the default 50% readiness. The only way to raise readiness is to play multiplayer. So if you want this scene, you have to play multiplayer.

the only way to raise the galactic readiness % is to play the online multiplayer. The only effect raising galactic readiness has is some dialog with Admiral Hackett(and some of the dialog on the London mission) and your EMS(effective military strength) will be closer to matching your TMS(total military strength)

To get all three options on how to use the crucible your EMS(effective military strength) needs to be at least 2800(you can get at least 2800 through single player alone). If your EMS is below 2000 then the only option you will have is destruction and the ending cinematic won't be a happy one. If you want your EMS to be really high then you have no choice but to play multiplayer. To answer your gameplay question, galactic readiness has no effect on how hard the London mission is.

Lastly, having a significant amount of EMS and picking the destruction ending gives you a very special cut scene

Until BW does something to rectify this ****storm, decisions, assets, readiness, and timing have no bearing on the outcome. There's only Green, Red, or Blue.

As do I. It would explain a lot of the confusion, questions and plot holes the ending gives.

Also, I have a question about what a poster above said. They said you have to have 100 percent paragon/renegade at the end to get the special ending. Is this true and confirmed?

No, I have never seen that before today. Just worry about getting your EMS as high as possible and choose the destruction path

If it helps, I went in with about 6100 EMS and from what I have read that is excessive.

Actually, probably the easiest way to increase your galactic readiness percentage is through the free Mass Effect Datapad app (which I understand is currently only available for the iOS and not Android). It's time consuming, but if you don't plan to finish the game for a few weeks, you can build up your readiness quite easily through the galaxy at war minigame. From what I can tell, there is no way to actually fail the missions in that minigame.
