Best way to 'train' destruction

During the 'Taking up Arms' quest to join the Companions in Whiterun, you must spar with Vilkas. He can't be killed during this time.

Blast away at him. and when you run out of magic, 'wait' for an hour, and blast away some more.

Destruction 100 if you want it.

Why is train in inverted commas?

Damn, wish I thought of this sooner. Leveling destruction is so mind numbingly slow as a battle mage.

Apostrophe. The term you're looking for is Apostrophe.

And I don't get exploits like this. Play the game naturally, and you'll raise Destruction just fine.

to this point i've just been summoning atronauchs and killing them ad nauseum to get lvls in destruction.. this sounds way better

ive just been using my destruction spells like normal killing enemies as i play through the quests. im only 12 hours in and already level 40. im not knocking anyone that wants to level up your way, but doesnt that kinda take the fun out of it?

Uhh, no, it's not. Apostaphes have nothing to do with inverted commas besides having a similar symbol.;jsessionid=738F3414333B99F482526040DC81119E

FYI, some results:

Started @ destruction level 60. It took 84 dual wielded flamebolts to level to 61
91 flamebolts to level to 62, taking 2:42 minutes
Switched to flames, 2 handed. It took 4:50 to level to 63
Switched to 1H flame, took 3:40 to level to 64
Switched one handed flamebolts. It took 2:20 to level to 65
2:25 to level 66
2:30 to level 67
lost track to 68
switched to one hand on continuous frostbite, the other hand to flamebolts
took just 1:31 to level 69
1:33 to level 70
Switched 1 hand to flames, other to frostbite and wielded both continuously.
took 4:30 that way to L71
experimented with some other combos of 1H and 2H lightning spells, with no improvement

(Tapping 1H flames, the other frostbite as quickly as I could switch them back and forth was a disaster. tried it for about 8 minutes any leveling)

switched back to 1h frostbite, 1h flame-bolt up to L80
Took 2:40 to get from 80 to 81.

Stopped here to go back to the main quest.

Bottom line: The fastest way to level destruction appears to be with one hand doing continuous frostbite, the other doing quick flamebolts.

I'm pure mage and destruction kind of leveled on it's own. I got it to 90 and everything else was at 35-50.

Also, there's nothing wrong with wanting to level up quickly. Just like in real life, you can get better by practicing. I've been practicing Illusion and Alteration at the college and almost maxed them out.
Itchy. Tasty.
