Stop whining & moaning about Oblivion's leveling system

#31TopherPosted 12/13/2010 12:55:56 AM
That's not what I'm talking about at least, I'm talking about the broken level scaling mechanics and the fact the the character leveling was broken, the system worked great in earlier titles.

The learn by doing system is a staple and won't be going anywhere. People keep getting the two totally different things confused.

I liked it. What's wrong with it?

Practice your skills based on the attributes you want to increase next level and get 10 major skill increases. All it takes is a little planning. I think it's too simple in Fallout 3/NV. You just do random stuff for a while and then all of a sudden you magically get significantly better at something in an instant.

One thing I really hope they change that I loathed in oblivion was the enchantments on unique quest rewards being level based (minus the daedric quests). If there is only one of a particular item in game, it should have set stats. And I want there to be random unique items scattered in a few dungeons like Morrowind. Morrowind was not perfect, but I want these two aspects back.

This topic is fail!

No one is complaining about the friggin leveling system. The leveling system is great and worked in past games!
The only thing that's screwed up is the scaling....you know, how everything pretty much levels with you; loot, monsters, stores and even the town guards! (and i mean in a really broken way)

I hope to heck that people stop mixing things up. Get it right....its the Scaling that's screwed up!

I didn't even play Oblivion like an rpg. I just played like an action adventure game.

I went back and tried but I was to unhappy with the game by that point.

Agreed^ It's not the base system that's the problem. It's the way it scales.

Oscar396 is testament to the fact that those who favor Oblivion over Morrowind cared more about the action involved and not so much the RPG. This is perfectly fine......I just hope that in Skyrim they consider making the RPG aspects as great as the action!
