In Fallout 3 we had that little cabin in Megaton where you can stash your things. Does this game have one?

A place to store items: The Bonestrewn Crest fast travel point has chest for storing your items

Not my find, just one of the many tips here:

I looted the apples out of the barrels near the front of the smithing place in Whiterun and use those to store my items in.

I put all the valuable armour and weapons in my houses upper floor chest usually though. Both are good spots because they are close to the Whiterun quick travel location.

Any barrel you find (there are 3 right outside the blacksmith in Whiterun, that's what I use to store ingots, food and ingredients).

Any dead corpse works too.

Stop whining, save up 5,000 gold and buy the house in whiterun.
You're going to eventually anyways and it is worth it early on.

I just spent about 45K buying /decorating the house in Solitude and the Whiterun house is still more convenient.

Me: I didn't think you needed one anymore.

Nah, the house in Whiterun is terrible. You don't even need to buy that house. You already have 3 perfect barrels just outside of it. :)

Yes. :)

Technically speaking you can even drop your items on the ground and they will always remain there. No one will steal them.

The only instance where you might lose your items is if you store them on a corpse and it disappears for whatever reason (respawn or quest reset).
